That is good info,, should be a sticky for this board. Also, I have seen the xXx on other blocks as well, I think? Maybe it is a casting qualtity guide?

Mike that's some great info...I didn't know the main caps are wider...I believe there is some nickel content in the cast making it stronger also.

Seems like my 90 roller block had xxx in the lifter valley as well. I have some pics from when I tore it apart, I'll see if I can find them..

That's intriguing...I couldn't find it in the lifter valley..mine were on the outer block walls
the sizing was different..2 small x's and one large in the middle. Matt you said yours was a 90's model roller block? what kind of car or truck?

Mine came out of the back of a van :D The guy that gave me the block said he was told it came out of a truck, but my research says it had to come out of a Cougar or something (based solely on what I found on the net, at places that sell blocks). The casting number is E7TE, it was marked 90 by the person that pulled it. Most sites I found sait that casting number was used in cars from 87 - 92, which was before trucks had roller cams.

    E7...should mean 1987 yr. model.
That is definitely a roller block unless it has been converted.
I don't believe that the roller (H.O.) engines ever came in
vans or trucks. That has to be a car block.

I believe there is also additional material in and around the main webs on a Mexican block. My 302 HO motor has the xXx in the lifter valley, it is a service replacement block bought in 1999 from Ford parts department. Basically it's an explorer block cast in Ohio.
