I got a face plate made today, 2 actualy. Rex at the steel shop cut the first one to see how it would fit. We fit it and then made the necessary adjustments and he cut a second one. Looks like a good practice piece. It was cut out of thin material so we could make adjustments before the final piece is made. I'm not too thrilled about the break in the middle, but we'll see how it looks in the end. Maybe the thicker plate will be better.
Rex is concerned that the straight ribs going straight accross might warp. I was told by a third party he uses a wet jet, he isn't.
The final plate thickness will most likely be 3/16th thick. rex seems to think it will be over kill. I want something that will not bend or be flimsy. My hope is that once the cuts are made it should lighten it. Unfortunatly it will also reduce the ridgidty and that's why I am thinking go thicker. It costs a little more but it needs to meet my expectations. Pics tomorrow.

I can't wait to see the final Comet version after you're done practicing with these Maverick ones.

It's quite possible that it could happen. I just need to see how the breaks will turn out.

Here are a couple of pics. Spent quite a bit of time at Rex's and got behind. I went by on the way home to test fit the face. It needs some adjustments. Gotta go back to see Rex sometime next week before I can do anything else.
He told me about a place he knows that does chroming. I will get that info from him on the next visit. He claims they are very reasonable, but we shall see.

Here are some drawings of what I have in my head. The blue part is a front flat plate that can be painted to match the car or what ever color you like. The flames will be a second flat piece of some sort of mesh. It looks like I need to possibly paint the flames and then tack it to the back of the face which would be painted black on the back side. I'm wanting to just paint the whole face front and back black. I just think it would be a better looking grill if it was the same color as the car. Opinions really needed on this one.
The two graphics that are the same design have a small piece of fire in the lower corners. I was thinking about making a box on the back side of those small flames for a park turn bulb.

i really like the first two and the turn sig idea is cool to i would make the grill the same color as the car, and the flames just open or a chrome wire mesh of some sort.
