thats what i was thinking. it's also why i like the first two i don't think they would block as much air if the flames were cut out.
No biggie. All flames will be cut out. I plan on keeping the flame cut outs for other ideas. I gotta see how big the bigger flames turn out cause I hope I can use them as hood pin bases on the hood. Yea, i'm different that way.
Any possiblity you might do just a frame for those who would like to do their own pattern? I think it would look great with just a mesh grill insert.
The frame is/was really difficult. I don't know how just having that would help someone cause it wasn't designed to be the actual face. The one I made WAS designed to hold the face plate. After doing it and seeing how it fits, I will now be using tabs at the mounting points. The frame isn't real heavy, but the two pieces together start adding up. The mesh is another option I have in mind. I was going to reverse the pieces. Use the mesh as the face plate then use the flames that were cut out of the flat plate faces to place in front of the mesh. Of course the mesh one would probobly have to have a frame, so that is one for down the road.
Cross your fingers that the cutout I get tomorrow is the perfect fit. Then I can proceed to mounting points.
My buddy at Oreily is off today so I will have to wait till tomorrow to see if it fits any better. Rex at the custom steel shop showed me some mesh that is exactly what i want to use. We will be spot welding the mesh to the back side once we get to that point. The mesh looks like the screen basket you get with a parts washer or carb cleaner gallon can. The flames will also shrink just a little bit also. I want more material at the edges on top and bottom. I think it will look pretty good.
