I'm not a big fan of the Bobcat lights ... but they look better black ... that was the way to go ....
I just completed that project on my '77. I left the reflector lens in the setup. It seems to work fine as brake and tail light with 2057 bulbs. I will eventually go LED. You just gotta sacrifice a pair of Maverick tail lights.
"mercury Pinto"...that would be kinda rare, wouldn't it? Seriously, here, you don't see many Ford Pintos around, and the mercury version "Bobcat" is rarer. It is good to see that they had some decent parts on them for others to use...
As many cars as I have drove, seen, pulled parts off of, I have never seen an early Bobcat in person. There is an '80 Bobcat at my local junkyard, but it dosen't have the cool tail lights. Does have bucket seats and floor shift though. Pinto's are still around, I've probably seen 5 or 6 of them in the last 6 months driving around, includeing one early one with the Maverick tail lights. Some old guy was driving it and was probably the original owner judgeing by how nice the car was. Saw it on Hwy. 515 in Blue Ridge, GA. I definately see more Pinto's driving around then Mavericks! You always gotta play the Pretty Fly For A White Guy song when you see a Pinto...
i like the taillights with the blacked out look since the rear is also black. if it were the car color i would say go with the chrome. good job.
Looks Good!! The only part that really bugs me about Mavericks is the tailights, they look so plain, the Bobcat is a good upgrade, I like the way they look in black.
By the way, what stops us from using new mustang lights, or anything else that would fit in that space? I have seen some interesting light combos that I think would look decent, but wonder why we stick to these few different models when we do ours.
One reason is the ease of installation. The bobcat's were very easy to adapt. I personally like the fact that it fills the tail panel up giving it the "shelby type look" at a fraction of the price...jmo though
Because most of us were around when Mavericks were new and we tend to do things that are somewhat period correct. That, plus we like to do things the easy way.
