Just so I can change the plugs with a minimum of cuss words,:banghead: 408w is tempting though.;)

its real easy to change the plugs on a 200... but not nearly as satisfying...

    I've got a 352 available... I'm seriously considering it...

352? FE? why? looking at how well folks are getting their 302 ci "5.0's" to run, I think the question will remain why for a while to come.

The 352 is in the FE family with the truck 360, the 390, 406, 410, 427, 428. They are not as wide as 460; just a little wider than a 351C, but a heck of lot deeper. It's a tall engine from oil pan to carb.

They make swap headers for an FE in a Maverick...
It can be done, but the FE is heavy and complex. It is 50s technology.

My thought exactly. It's fairly inexpensive to build a 342 or 347 stroker, or just buy one from Ford Racing. I'm thinking of buying a 347 shortblock from FRP and bolting on some aftermarket aluminum heads and a nice roller cam.

352 has excellent heads, might accept a bore large enough for a 390... something about the 390 just makes me drool... 400ish lbs of torque at 2400rpms...

I put my headers on the 302 before the install and had the pleasure of jumping up and down on my freshly built and painted engine. :slap: Preston

On the 352- my dad had a 1957 Ford Fairlane with a 352 Police Interceptor in it. I've heard stories of that car from many people. By all accounts it was Bad News for anybody who wanted any. Even the cops. Dad swears it was one of the fastest cars he ever owned by far, and he has owned/raced/wrecked most of the options out there. Fairlanes, Torinos, 455 cutlasses, firebirds, mustangs, old coupes, GTO's.........the list goes on and on. He loved that motor in that car. One day when I can afford it, I'm gonna do a 1957 Fairlane just like that one for him. Just to say thanks.......you know?? Preston

Hey guys thought I'd throw my 2 cents in here. 351 Cleveland in my '73 Mav. Note in picture 1-13-2 of the shock tower that it has two holes drilled so I can change the center plugs on both sides. I will have to pull the tire off but that's better than pulling the engine. I can't imagine lifting the engine to change the plugs. No shock mods done but I also had to notch just a hair for the header bolts. Man is it tight !!!

I had originally thought about doing a 351c in a stock-towered maverick. Saw that picture....or one like it and it didn't take long to appreciate the 302(y)

Man that thing is full!!! How did you get the headers to clear at the top, and what headers did you use?? Looks good though! Preston

Two 1973 LDO Mavericks (one 4 Drag one 4 driving like Mad on the roads :) ) also have a 75 6cyl Stock! Ok, well sort of Stock :P
very intresting. one of the mavericks i bought had holes drilled just like that to remove the motor mount lifts.. why i don't know cuz you can get to them at the top.. but i guess it was the same idea.

but to me i'd go with a 302 stroked to 331 or 347 and not have to go to the trouble of changing plugs like that or even just reading them after a run at the track. easy access is what i say. :D if i wanted a car that i couldn't change pulgs on i'd buy a new car! :biglaugh:

but then again like most people were saying yeah i'd do a 351 if it was stroked to 408 or 427! :p

The headers are from Tubular Automotive out of Ma. and got to go on carefully. You think it's tight there you should see the underside. Sometimes I think the 302 would have been better for me...Nah!! I like the 351C and I'll deal with whatever comes my way.
