I just installed the 6X9's into the back window of my maverick today and was thinking about doing something like this. First question is, how do I remove the seat back of the back seat lol. Next question is, if somebody leans hard against the seat back, will they hit the magnet of the sub? Also, where on earth did you get the rear defrost. Carrying passengers makes that rear window frog up like crazy. Your works looks good by the way, good job.:thumbs2:

Do a search and one should be able to find out how to remove the rear seat.

Yes....if you lean on the back seat directly in the middle.....you can feel the magnet.

One can find a rear defrost used (maybe even on here) or on ebay. You might even be able to find an NOS one like I did.

I know this is an old post, but I was wondering if the template was still available? I wouldn't mind giving this a try once I get my Comet GT home.

I also sent an e-mail asking you about it,

Are any mods required to a STOCK rear seat to get the subwoofer magnet to clear? (How much depth is actually available?)

Also, I do understand that mounting the sub on a ported board, and facing the sub INTO the trunk, basically turns the entire trunk into a bandpass enclosure. But we are talking about non-directional, low-frequency sound.

Would we loose much sound pressure by simplifying the process and mounting the sub on a similar panel behind the back seat (in the trunk area) and facing the sub into the CABIN?

    Sort of like this: http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_images/4/313/2041/38281020030_large.jpg

I'm not as concerned with audiophile quality. Just looking for some good thump...

I had a similiar setup, "10in sub on a panel. I did'nt have the panel totally closed at the edges. What I had was a gud deal of resonance w/ the setup. I removed it abt a yr ago for a sealed trianglar enclosure, it has much less resonance w/ this setup and all the thump an oldtimer "like me"needs. I don't have a much sound deadner in the trunk but I don't play it vry loud - Just play it for me. I went for the sealed encl. cuz it don't take up much rm. I prefer ported enclosures but did'nt want to go w/ the extra space "size" they recquire.

So in the end, you were happier with a simple "box" enclosure in the trunk rather than the sub-on-a-panel solution?

No mods are required to the rear seat. The speaker magnet does protude into the back of the seat...but not very far.

I think the speaker could have been mounted facing INSIDE the car, but I mounted it the other way mainly for "looks". I think the sound would have been similiar.

Yes! I am happier w/ the box. It was a gud experiment and I wud'nt have known the difference, had I not tried the box. I remove the box when I am going on a trip and need the space. I have two 6*9's in the rr deck that produce gud bass when I take the box out.
It's all a matter of what ur lookin for as far as, space, sound and convience.
    Here is what I had!
    img_0023_original.jpg img_0026_original.jpg
The sub I had will not fit in the rr seat facing the rear w/o some mods to the seatback. This is a 10", any thing larger might not fit.
I don't have any pix of the present setup.
BTW - U have a very nice car.

Does ur's have a vry large magnet? My sub is 5in. deep frm the face, it has quite a large magnet. It barely clears the trk flr, if it were an 1/8in. larger it wud hit the flr.
I think it's a matter of design more than spk diameter that determines what will fit w/o modification. If it were reversed, I do believe the magnet wud be thru rr seat and in the cabin, or pretty darn close.

    Sorry did'nt recall "previous response".
Ok! I see u have it magnet side in rr seat. Did u have to mod the wires "springs" in seat back to make it fit? I never tried mine facing the trunk or installing a port. I still have the MDF panel mounted so it wud just be a matter of re-installing.

No seat springs interfere at all. It fits right between them.
