Jegs has some good prices on pre fabbed cages. A 4 point is less than $150. Then you could add to it later to go 8 or 10 point. Just a thought. I'd hate to lose my buddy to a crash!
there has been accidents on the road where the cage is the cause of death. Without a helmet you are in more danger because if your head hits the cage it will hurt you badly.
A cage is a small cost compared to what a bad wreck might cost you. I always ran tracks like that too but figured one day you might find that one guy at one track who says that car needs a cage, he cant run. Just covering youself if ya do. But, at the same time i know you plan on running low 7's but ,would be a waste if your plans change.
This was at the local track, the Mustang had no cage and ran low 10's, got slammed from behind by a mid 8 second Vega. (Quarter mile here) - luckily both were ok.
This happened at a local 8th mile track earlier this year, yea the car was faster than you are thinking yours will be ,but the point is The guy got out and walked away...because he had a cage.
Hey you could always wear your helmet while driving down the street.......... Poeple llok at you funny though...........
I agree with JD about the cage for a street car, and have had some fast street cars over the past 35 years....................and not one has had a cage. Every car I have ever owned that has raced on the strip, Silver States Classic (a 90 mile open road race), or on tracks like Laguna Seca, Sears Point, or Thunderhill have had a cage.......................and I would never race without one. When I entered the Silver States Classic a number of years ago I had a guy in Sacramento build a take-apart 6pt cage for the Mustang Cobra. It took three days but fit like a glove.....................and when I was finished with the race it took me about 3 hours to take it out and you couldn't tell it was ever there if you didn't look under the car. "Racing is dangerous and when you stop thinking it isn't is when you can kiss your ass good bye".........quote by Bill Jenkins.............words to live by if you only race one Sunday every year...........IMHO
Im looking to be in the tens in the 1/4 mile but regardless if it was required I would want one. a good cage will save your life. there no way any of the accidents shown in the past pages wouldve been survivable if not for having a good cage.
How often do you bonk your head on the bars? lol sorry couldn't help it. Common Sense is not an option evidently.
