    Had em on my last car to 10.30's 1/4 with drag radials, stuck like glue, also had their adjustable shocks. Think we only spun once in 4 years and that was because I didn't have enough air in them 15#. They just worked great on that car, got a 4-link now takes a little more tuning but produces amazing results.

    As for the clunking you mentioned, it sounds like you might be binding them up. make sure the bolts are not to tight they move freely. Then take it to the track and let it eat.

    They don't clunk on takeoffs or while driving fast. Mostly just backing in and out of my driveway, when I come to a stop or move forward, or go up the little bump into the driveway, I may hear a clunk.

    I don't remember the Cal tracs on ether of my cars ever making any noise! you should look at something else!

    Prolly not enough preload. Did you split a piece of heater hose and stick it over the bolt? This dampens any noise when the bolt hits the spring...

    I could at least try the hose on the bolt and see if it changes the sound. Then I would KNOW that it is from the caltracs.

    If you have a Tractionlok, it will make clunking noises at low speeds on turns. Get some additive from a Ford dealer and it will fix it right up.

    the problem with adding additive to the diff oil is it makes the clutch pack slip do you really want your posi slipping!

    Mine is spooled. No moving parts in there.

    I am pretty sure the sound is the crossbolt hitting the spring as it unloads and reloads.

    The Ford additive is designed for the Tractionlok and should not make it slip. I know mine doesn't.

    The additive is made to stop the clutch pacs from chattering and the way it stops them from chattering is to make them slip!

    EVENTUALLY when I get to the trk I`m going to use them for awhile & then switch over to a ladder bar 3 link set up.A little easier to adjust than a 4 link & will work just as well.

    Frank, I know this thread is from the mists of time, but can you enlighten me as to the exact nature of this technique? I am guessing you do something a bit more modern at this point, but I am very curious about this backwards (upside down?) leaf?

    the leaf was turned around backwards, not upside down. this put more spring tention to the front of the spring pack to help keep the springs from wrapping when hitting it hard.
    I still run them this way.
