Sorry,I should clarify the wet plug reference. The cleaner of the plugs,2/4/5/7 do after more scruiteny appear to be getting wetted down due to excess fuel(giving them a cleaner appearance) or as baddad457 pointed out running leaner than the others in which case I would say they are the more normal appearing plugs out of the 8 in the picture.Plugs 1/3/6/8 are the fouled ones.(rich mixture)Sorry about the lack of clarity on my part.Replace those plugs with new ones, either way the have been cooked.
AND THE WINNER IS...... Anyone who suggested something to the effect of valves hanging open.... Yes folks there was an Intake valve problem..... and an exhaust valve problem.... As a matter of fact there was a problem with every - single - valve in the heads. Turns out that the original engine builder installed the pistons (flat top with valve reliefs) up-side-down. When I installed the heads I only paid notice that the reliefs were there. It didnt occur to me that they might be installed incorrectly. All of the valves got bent. The whirring noise was the valves smacking into the pistons. So much for getting a great eBay deal on the package. Had to buy all new valves and related expenses. Pulled all pistons out, flipped the rods, installed new rod bearings and put motor back together. For anyone interested in doing a cam, head, header swap, or complete engine rebuild, (everything but removing the crank) it is much easier to do all of this with the motor out. If you have the resources, go that route. Thanks for your help... The car is running. Case closed. Please see my new post for tuning questions.
Sorry you had to go through all of that. This confirms that you should always check piston to valve clearance when swapping a cam.
Sorry, I guess the above statement is misleading. The package I am referring to was the heads, cam, rockers, lifters, and pushrods. Got a great deal but since the clearance snafu, had to spend more money to get the heads fixed thus negating the great deal I got on "the package". The engine builder is a totally different person and will remain secret. Its not anyone you will ever have to worry about buying from.
Man I was afraid of that!I really hoped for your sake it was a timing issue.Well at least you know its right now.Yeah allways check piston to valve clearance when changing cams or pistons or both.
After having made the mistake once already and literally paid the price. I checked it twice before putting it back together again.
