Can I swap my stock-style dizzy cap for an "HEI" one with the nipples?

The lower portion of the large cap can be had for 10-15 bux at a parts store.
They don't wear out, although they can break, but point being you can get one from a boneyard.
When you go to the parts store and ask for a cap and button, shoot for something around 82 with 302. I think I asked for Crown Vic w/302 to get my stuff.
When electronic ignition first came out, they continued to use the female cap, so the previous suggestion to use a 75-77 Mav won't get you the cap you want. The large male cap didn't come out till early 80s.
Anyway... go to the boneyard and get the cap adapter and cover, then go to AZ or other to get the cap and button. It will all work on Duraspark or points distributor.

    Crown Vic it ISN'T...

I think I need to rephrase my question, after doing a little research.

Can I find a nippled distributor cap that will fit my stock distributor (small cap) without using this conical adapter I came across? The one on the e-bay search has it, but can I get one by going to AutoZone and asking for a stock cap, and if so, which car(s)?

The crown vic and the 77 mav both were the same part number and were the big flattened cap...

The big flat 2 pc cap is what I thought you were looking for.
It is the only stock male cap that will fit our distributors.
If there is a small cap with male ends that will retrofit to our distributors, it is a purely aftermarket venture.
The big cap is better anyway because it is too wide to allow carbon scatter of the spark between cylinders. That is the main reason I use them rather than the male connector issue. I just consider that part icing on the cake.

Btw: If that Summit cap for 24 bux includes all 3 parts in the pic, that is a good price...
Buy you wires and all while you are at it though. That will add to the value of the 'handling fee' they will charge you. I used Summit brand 8mm wires on mine. They were about 24 bux for a set too.
Just a thought if you go this route.

I have to get new wires. Or put 90 degree boots on mine, but new ones look better. Mine are new though, only 500 or so miles, so I might do the boots.

NAFORD found a part number on a small cap with the nipples from another car, I will check it out and see if it fits. No reason why it shouldn't. Then I will post the part number for future reference

I would be interested in that, just for giggles.
If it looks stock with the plugs installed, I might put one on the Sprint.
I like good stuff that looks stock, for that car anyway.

FYI Scott, MSD makes a wire for the old style cap that has a 90* boot on the dizzy end, that's what I'm running. Not what I wanted, but the terminology confuzed me too much when I ordered them, so I switched caps temporarily since I could do so for free.
