Well theres one good thing with those mustang drums. Its easy to convert to disc later on, theres a write up where guys use the drum spindles to run SN95 brakes.

Buttoned up the brake lines and got it back down on the ground

Gonna get this on next and if all goes well, one of my sons can help me bleed the brakes this weekend...maybe a little test drive afterwards! (y)

Still gotta finish sorting out the emergency brake cables though.

Had a bad day at work...got home late and needed a pick me up. So I hooked the battery cable up on the Maverick and fired it up. First time I've heard it run in over a month and it was music to my ears. Purrs like a kitten and the reman carb was money well spent...the choke and fast idle perform flawlessly. That made my day...gotta keep motivated! :yahoo:

Got the master cylinder on and brakes bled. I ran into 2 issues with the master cylinder. The first was that it came with 2 push rods and a loose tag in the box that said "Use the rod for Mustangs and Cougars only", but which one? I did some reading here and found where many have removed the master cylinder push rods by twisting and pulling it out...that worked fine on getting my old one out. I compared the lengths and mine was different that the ones that came with the new master cylinder so I reused the original one. Next there were no bench bleeding fittings so it took a little longer to get the brakes bled.

Then I was finally able to drive it around a little for the first time with brakes. Felt pretty neat. The Craigslist bought 250 seems fairly peppy. Trans seems to shift good other than I noticed a 2-3 shift flair once. The brakes stopped good and straight. I'd say the only issue I found was that I could feel something loose in the steering when I went over bumps. I have new outer tie rod ends already but I need to get under it and check the rest of the stg. I suspect the idler arm is worn.

Gotta get insurance, tags and do a little more tweaking so I can give it a good shake down run.

I took a look at my brake lines today and found 1 leak on the lt side where the line I made meets the new brake hose. It's good and tight so I'm guessing I got a bad flair. No big deal because I can make another line in no time so that should fix it.

I've run out of funds again (I'm funding most of this project with money I make through my other hobby of building bicycles and selling bike parts on ebay) but there's a big show in Murfreesboro this weekend and I'm setting up a swap meet booth to move some stuff. Hopefully that will fund the rest of my stg parts and new carpet for when I start the interior. At this point I think the control arms and balljoints are ok.

The headliner and seats are ok (but I gotta work on the seat tracks) and I already have a new dash cap, steering wheel, wiper switch, headlamp switch and stereo.

Trying to get the things I need bought before the winter so all I will need is my labor to get it wrapped up so I can start the bodywork late winter/early spring.

Also gotta go ahead with the trunk mods for the new Mustang gas tank I have and get new exhaust run...still debating a cherrybomb...or not???

I got the brake line off and found the source of the leak. The flair was offset. I made a new line and all seems well....that is till gas started pouring out the bottom of the carb on the test drive. Not sure what's up with that, the carb is a reman unit....according to the stickers it was built in 05.

Well the reman carb I have was a old stock reman. for a 250 with Ca emissions. It looks like a standard carb but has extra valves and shafts on the frt of the carb....making it more prone to leaks. So I'm guessing that even though the carb was a reman...it was old enough that the rubber was cracking.

I do most of my own work, but carburetors are something I never have much luck with so one of my dads friends is a pro with Carters...he is going to build me a carb. One of the mods here was nice enough to find me a rebuildable core so with that, the Ca. emissions junker and the original one off the 77 model engine with stripped threads.....I hope I end up with 1 good carb. :16suspect

So I have 3 Carter YFs in a box with a new carb kit and a partial kit...dropping them off to the carb guy tomorrow. Told him I wasn't in a big hurry, figure I'll start installing the Mustang gas tank while the carb is being rebuilt.

No word on the carbs...can't get the guy to call me back. Heck at this point I'm starting to think about a Motorcraft 2100 and an adapter.

    Me Too!

I just pulled the Headliner out of my Maverick last Monday and it had a mouse nest above the passenger visior. Interesting smell....

Not much of an update...but I was at my dads house today and he asked me what I did with the original hubcaps off of the Maverick. I said I probably threw them away in the 80s...then he handed me one of them. It looks like NOS...I hope he finds the other 3. Not that I would use them, just cool to have...they are UGLY!!!! lol

Still nothing on the carbs so I bought yet another one from a member here. That will get it back running so I can tinker with it a little. I really want to get it to the exhaust shop asap. I also ordered all of the stuff to rebuild the stg linkage. I'm pretty sure my balljoints are all still ok but there is looseness in the stg.

It just sucks that I'm not getting anything done. I got alot done in the beginning, then once I got it somewhat driveable I've hit a wall. This has been a very cold December so my garage has been around 40 degrees so I haven't felt the motivation to do anything on the car. Today was the first time I've even looked at it in quite awhile. This project is going to take longer than what I expected.

What I'd give for a "cold" December like you've got. Try dealing with 0 degrees Farenheit and 2 feet of snow from Nov-Feb. Cold is all a perspective.(y)
