The inner layer of the safety glass is clouding unfortunately. The Comet windshield is tinted across the top which is a plus.

I finally wrapped up my spring house repairs. The Mavericks right where I left off after pulling the windshield. I pulled it out tonight and started the dreaded sealer removal from the old windshield. The first thing was to remove the molding clips. An old trick I learned long ago is to set the end of a big pry bar under one side and a big flat tip screwdriver under the other side and gently work the clips off. No flying clips.

Next I used some junky HF plastic pry tools to scrape off all the sealer I could. I went around once to get the big stuff. Then second to scrape off all I could. That's as far as I got...next comes a solvent to really clean up the gasket areas.

All of the body seams on the cowl and windshield area are going to be cleaned up and resealed next.

Gas rag works great removing old sealer.

If you took the same picture without the three close vehicles in it, and cropped it a little tighter, that could almost pass for a shot for a Mercury brochure back in the day. :thumbs2:

Got the dash sanded and primed. I didn't worry about taping off the dash very good, it's total garbage and I will be replaccing it soon.

These are the windshield molding clips I got. I've read here that people have had trouble with this brand, but I've also read on Mustang forums that you must open these up a tad with pliers and they work fine.

I also finally installed a set of 70 taillight lenses and cleaned up the bezels a little.

I've also been beating my head against the wall trying to get the trunk to fit right. The right side has a bit more gap than the left side. This one fits better than the green one, but last night I did some reading here and found that poor fit on the rt side of the trunk is the nature of the beast. I don't feel as bad now. :16suspect

I guess I'll go ahead and drill this one out for the Grabber spoiler.

Why don't you look for the plastic version of the clip because it won't dig into your paint and cause a place for rust to start?

And what's the difference between the 70 tail light lenses and all the rest?

Is the right side trunk gap too big or is it a different problem with the fit?

Only the 70's had a 100% of the reverse lamp lens "clear". ALL later lenses had a hint of red around the border of the lens.

70 on the left, 71+ on the right:

The gap side to side is ok but it's sort of like the rt is a little high near the end cap. No way to get it down. Many others say theirs is the same. I've done every adjustment and made sure the trunk bumper isn't holding it up. Like I said, this trunk fits much better than the green one I had on it. I'm probably the only one that would notice it. The only way I see to get it lower is the knock down the trough that the trunk seal goes in. That's the only thing I can see holding it up since it can be pressed down with pressure to fit flush. It might be better when I get a new trunk seal.

See here in this pic. The passenger side doesn't seem flush with the quarter.

Here's the thread referencing right side fitment issues.

Yep that's the difference. I ruined my originals years ago by installing blue dots. Not a huge difference, but I wanted to get all of the 70 model stuff back in place I could. I also had to get a new set of clear frt turn signal lenses.

Paint on the upper dash drying. This seems to be the right stuff if you have med blue interior.

And here's a downward view of the gap on the rt side. I want to make one more tweak but if I get it where I want it or at least close, I'm not taking the trunk off again. I'll paint the lower side on the car. This is frustrating.

Could it be because of the upward spring pressure?
