Good news and bad news. I welded up the letter holes on the hood I bought.

Bad news. The whole #$@#% hood is skimmed with 1/8" of bondo covering damage and rust.

Not blaming the member I bought it from. I chose from a few hoods he had. This one looked the best. You can't see anything from the bottom or top indicating this. It's just my luck. I guess I better take a grinder or a magnet next time I look at one cuz I sure ain't using a bondo'd hood.

All else fails I think I have enough parts to make it a Comet.:mad:

Getting ready to start welding in the apron patches.

I've got my vacation coming up in 2 weeks and the plan is to work on the Maverick all week. The main goal is to get the front end back on for good and the windshield put in.

Where did you get the center-caps for the Torque Thrust wheels?

I started stripping parts off the donor Comet. The windshield is ready to come out. The moldings came off easy and I did note these retainer clips are yellow as opposed the red and black ones that were on my Maverick. Not sure I'm using the fender off the Comet yet or not, but it is as nice on the back as it is the front.

Same goes for the hood off the Comet. I bolted it on temporary.

Nice Comet hood there. They are so hard to find without a rotten front edge, just like Mav hoods, but there are 5 Xs fewer of them ...

Finally got the job done I've dreaded so bad. I got the nice dash out of the donor. It sucked and my hands are cut up. Got mad at the end because it wouldn't come loose, but I'd missed the oddly located nut above the ashtray.

Got the hood from a member today and it appears to be everything he said it was. Original paint and no rust or dents. Very nice!

Poured some POR15 into the inner hood reinforcement and let it flow end to end. It coated all of the inner hood lip to help protect it. Then I applied a coat a POR15 to the underside of the hood.

Looks like you got a real beauty of a hood now. Are you going to paint over the POR 15?

How did you prep the surface for POR? I thought you couldn't paint POR-15 over the existing paint? I thought it had to be bare etched metal (Metal Prep) or rust? That's why I'm in the middle of 'de-painting' my floor pans.

I'll have to go back and read some more...

The underside of the hood has some light surface rust so I cleaned and scuffed the underside of the hood with a red scotchbrite pad then applied the POR15. I'm not painting over it but you can if you sand it and add their Tie Coat for best adhesion.

I've used POR15 over paint before in my Falcon and it didn't have any problems so I figured I'd use it on the hood. Not sure how it will hold up long term.

Got off work and I guess my vacation officially started. First things first. Had to pull the car out and clean up the garage. Parts everywhere that needed to be put up. Tools scattered. Ready to go to work tomorrow.

Your garage looks cool and interesting. I see tree doors. It it attached to your house?
