Arghh, I totally forgot to check that. Thanks Bryant for that suggestion, I'll take a look at that button tonite. I check the vacuum hoses. All are hooked up properly. I recently redid my vac hoses. (Maybe 4-5 mo ago) and since everything is in the right place I'm fairly certain that that's not the culprit.
He shouldn't have had to, but oftentimes steel screws that have been embedded in aluminum for 30 years have a nasty habit of stripping the threads out of the aluminum. Then it's sometimes neccessary to pull the distributor to change the pod and repair the threads.
So I did what Bryant suggested and checked for proper fit of everything but I really wish I had done a more thorough job. Today at 8am I was planning on getting the distributor changed so I could take it over to the dyno and then out to Bryant's shop for some work. Took me from 8:30am-11:30 to replace the dizzy. It really wasn't as bad as I thought but I just had never done it. And in the end the only reason it wasn't working is because of a little piece that had broken off which sits under the rotor and is part of the pertronix. It had broken off and someone had glued it down. So when that mobile mechanic dude came he probably knocked it loose and didn't know it. But I still replaced the distributor and it drove well except it was detonating like crazy. Wasn't able to read the timing so I drove it to the dyno and I guess you can follow the other threat all about that.
