Maybe a better way to put the question out there, is what do you have your car insured for? Vintage cars should have a stated value policy. When I'm done with mine, it will be in the 20K range for my insured value.
I've got liability only. But they still offered to replace my '74 Grabber when I wrecked it! I don't think the woman even knew what a Maverick was.
We've had some pretty high offers made on our Stallion and the 77' Mav, and the answer is always the same: " Not for Sale". There are some things one can not put a value on in terms of money. If I put together all the man hours that have been spent on our two Mavericks and translated them into cash numbers, we could buy a Hummer and still have a little left over. But I don't want a Hummer. I like our Mavericks just fine.
$17500.00-as appraised. Came in handy last year, the estimate was over 6000, if I didn't have that stated value on my car, they would've totaled it out, not given me much for it and I would've had to buy it back from them.
Mine is not going anywhere. I have owned it for 28 years and it was my first car. My oldest son says it is going to be his first car. But that won't happen. His first car will be something that if it get's wrecked it can easily be replaced. Kinda like my Maverick was back in 1978.
See the orignal thread for my answer. Now for more on this thread. The last Maverick I sold was a 1973 four door with a 250 six in decent shape. I bought it as a second car around 1984 for $2000. I planned to keep it forever too. In 1993 I moved from Culver City to Morro Bay, about 200 miles up the coast of California. The Maverick conked out on the 405 Freeway when I was driving from Los Angeles to Morro Bay. I had to decide whether to tow it the 170 miles to Morro Bay or the 30 miles back to Culver City. I chose to take it back to where I used to live and leave it there. My neighbor sold it to my gardner for me for $500. He said the gardner never had any trouble with it. I guess it didn't want to move to foggy Morro Bay. Maybe it feared potential rust, or just liked living in LA. Last year I got the fever again and bought the one I have now. I plan to keep it forever, but if it starts misbehaving, who knows. Roz
I had a phone call one day, some guy out of the blue offered me $6000.00 for my car, I explained to him that it's not "For Sale" but he kept trying to buy it, one day my wife answered the phone, and she told him nicely that, "He would sell me before he ever sold his Maverick"
My 1973 Maverick "The Mav" was my first car and is a part of the family. I will never sell it! It would be like selling my child. There is more to life than just money!! My Grabber "Spookie" is not for sale. I have taken a liking to Spookie but if I needed money I would sell it for twice as much as I paid for it, plus twice as much as I have put into it, plus $100 per hour of my time working on it. I would add a special Maverick tax that, by my calculations, would come out to $696,696.69. Anyone interested????
Realistically my Sprint is worth roughly 3k +/-. My 75 is just a body with potential or v8 parts, 2-300 bux. That said, I would set a price as follows: Sprint 6k 75 500 bux. There is a price for anything, and those are mine. Dave
