Totally agree Craig, but I’d start closer to $4,000. They WILL offer you less.

That roof can be re-skinned for $2500. I had my Honda roof re-skinned and it didn't even cost that much (and it has a power moon roof). I got a donor roof from a parts-car for $150, and the guy who did the body & paint on my Maverick did the work. But yeah, demand $4,000 and settle for at least $2500...

I'd be fuckin furious and I would seek legal action. There is NO excuse for that. a Grown man walking on a person's car to do a job. No, I'm not taking that bullshit.
But it's too bad it can't be pushed out. like a scaffold across the inside with a hydraulic press pressing an object with a similar contour

Here in Texas 4k would come under a JP court jurisdiction which is a circus. No attorneys are needed meaning you can represent yourself. An judgement is basically meaningless meaning that property you could take wouldn't be worth the effort.

The company or person that did the damage could also file bankruptcy and the suit will be dismissed.

I agree with the others. I'd freaking unload on them. I think the $4,000 number mentioned by others might as well be a place to start. Tell him for $4K you'll sign an agreement to not sue. If you can get an estimate from a restoration ship that'll bolster your position. Such a place can absolutely fix that. Production body shops won't even try to fix badly dented panels anymore. They're all about slicing off the old and slapping on new sheetmetal. If he throws out a feeler for negotiation that's the time to say "What do you have in mind?" You'll find out real fast if he's going to be reasonable. Counter at least once just to see what happens.

IMO if you stall out at $1500 or higher take it and run. Anything you might drag out of him above that won't be worth the effort and it might be less after court costs, deductible, or whatever depending on how it goes.

That was a pretty lengthy answer, maybe longer than you're looking for...but it's what I'd do.
