Bad Starter Went through this many times before, I now have each one(starters and alternators) checked at the store before installing. I remember this same situation on our Mav race car, kept having starter problems one right after another. All were replaced by the store with no hassle, the problem was that each starter had a different cable stud location. One on top and some on rear, seems as though the cable from the solonoid had a bit larger lug on the end and when installed on the rear stud, would contact the starter case just enough to cause a grd. and fry the starter. Was hard to see all this because of the one header tube being in the way and causing much grief when installing and removing each starter. Trimmed up the lug and that ended the problem. Just rememberd about it when reading of post on having a grd on the starter cable from the solonoid. I definately check this on all starter apllications hereafter. Only happens once in a million times, but seems it is always on my stuff. Learning never ends for me.
