Good point. I'm just curious on the process.
I wonder how you would set up a fender in carbon fiber then?

not sure if you were curious on how CF parts are made or what, so sorry if I misunderstood your question. :D

Ya I have seen that. But cars have to resist impact, so it might be done differently. I don't know! lol

thats what the fiberglass frame is for Im assuming, if the fiberglass is the only thing being impacted then it should hold up when being closed, but if I bought a 700 dollar hood I wouldnt slam it shut :p

If it wrecked then I feel bad for that hood and possibly the driver if those fiberglass shards found theirselves inside the car...lol

Im not trying to answer questions directed for him, just figured Id offer my 2 cents.

An all carbon fiber hood would be double in price!!!!! To be honest the weight savings vrs price at that point would be negligable

I love mine Great hood and priced right. Fits nice!!!

Two 1973 LDO Mavericks (one 4 Drag one 4 driving like Mad on the roads :) ) also have a 75 6cyl Stock! Ok, well sort of Stock :P

It is just an open hole. As far as rain really I don’t think it would be an issue. I have a cobra jet scoop on my car with an open hole 10xs bigger then those and use to drive that everyday in the rain and everything never been a problem. also I have a late model gto that has stock hood scoops about twice that size and never had issues with that either.

    Yes I take Pay Pal

No sorry it only fits pre 74 besides I don’t have any right now in fact I really haven’t planed on making anymore at this time.

Sorry really not much of a market for them. I did these parts really for myself more then anything. And for profit margin I don’t make much vs my time ;)

I never have compared a grabber fiberglass hood for weight since I never have had one. Reason for fiberglass frame? COST! Most of the weight from the hood comes form the main part. The top of the hood. The CF is still lighter. However you can make a very light fiberglass part but then it tend to misshape and well it is really really flimsy! But more of a reason to do it in CF is because parts are more constant in shape. All fiberglass hoods need to be re-sanded and finished.

The top side of the hood is Carbon fiber and backed with fiberglass. If you see the video of the violin notice they use a different material after they lay the carbon. You can use almost anything you want for that even another sheet of carbon! But that effects cost! And actually fiberglass will crack CF will more like shatter when brought to that level of strength. Again fiberglass frame = cheaper!

Nice vid. However this video is a pre-preg, vacuumed and auto claved process! One of the best ways IMO for CF for these kinds of products. However this hood is hand laid. Its not by any means better just a cost effective way to do this hood. You can do hoods in this process however cost would be about 4xs to 6xs as much and 2xs as much as our mavericks… lol! but the CF you could probably run it over with a truck and it wouldn’t bust and would weight about 12lbs only. I actually do this process for other parts I make for other cars but those guys will pay for that quality part and I can re-coop some of my cost.

    .............

Either way this hood will be better then any fiberglass hood out there. Don’t take my word for it ask the people who have bought other fiberglass hoods. The famous words are always I should have listened! Don’t like the CF look paint it! or ever better paint the hood and leave the grabber stripes in CF like Chrit did here! ;)

no worry ;) actually the vid is a really nice one. i love to do it that way for maverick parts but really no one would pay for it. well maybe a few but really @ $500 for spoilers and $2800 for hoods it wont happen. ;)

Either way your hoods are great and thank God at least someone is making them at least ones that are good as we all know that there are some really crap ones out there.

    Cowl Hood

Derrick did you come up with anything on shipping a Carbon Fiber Cowl Hood? I could really use one. The Carbon Fiber Grabber Hood is not going to fit on my new motor. I was really hoping but no go. Please let me know if you come up with anything.
    Thanks,
