They sell it quite often on E-bay Perhaps DM and I got a bad cut. I have gaps in mine at the front of the floorboard next to the kick panels that I can stick 3 fingers in. Oh, and I did complain, to AK and ACC. Seth
Well, I found th4e ebay store that is selling ACC carpets way under what AK wants for them or what ACC wants for them on their web site for that matter. -- $109.00 plus shipping I'll let you know how it goes!
You are right about that, Seth. My original was also in two pieces and the ACC was one. It does not fit perfectly but it's "good enough". As for the quality of the material itself, it was identical to the original in both color and style. It's basically the same stuff, just a bit poorly cut. Two pieces would be much easier to install and adjust for proper fit...
i've been looking for carpet myself, I saw that JC Whitney sells 2 different brands (Newark Auto, and Auto Carpet Systems inc.) Newark says they sell a 2 piece front/ rear nylon loop set for 129.95, cut pile 2 piece, same price. has anyone had any experience with this company? A.C.S. only sells the carpet as one piecefor 144.95 (RIP OFF!!!!!! in my opinion!!!!)
I'd be interested to try the acc stuff myself. Acc has a pretty decent reputation for being one of, if not the best aftermarket carpet supplier. I've got some decent experience with acc and 5.0 mustang carpets, and the fit and finish is usually pretty good. In my opinion, if acc doesn't make the maverick carpet decent, no one is going to. the problem with acc carpet, is it comes in a box wrinkled as all hell, and almost none of the holes are cut for seats, belts, etc. A large part of peoples fitment problems (not critisizing anyone) is that people don't allow it to sit in the sun for a good amount of time to get the wrinkles out. Additionally, cutting the holes is very difficult, because if you screw up, then the whole carpet is gonna be off, and that's not acc's fault. the easiest way to solve this is to perfectly lay the old stuff over the new stuff after the new stuff has settled, then trace the patterns for the holes to cut. This won't insure the chance of getting bad acc carpet, but I'd still put my money on acc over any other company.
I got the J.C. Whitney stuff. Must have been Newark. Got it for 2 different cars at one time. It was cut pile and in 2 pcs. (Both sets) It came smooshed into a box. It is thin and cheap looking. Both sets fit absolutely horrible. The ends were cut, not stitched... don't know the proper term, welt maybe. They seemed to be cut at an angle, because when one side of the car fit perfectly, the other side was uncovered by 3". Or if the front of the car was covered, the back had sides that were not. I never quite figured it out. I ended up stretching it to fit and hiding as many bad spots as possible. I might as well have stretched flat carpet over it though. The carpets were supposed to be fitted, but I had air gaps beneath mine to get it to stretch to the outer edges of the interior. If you pushed to hard on the air pockets, to get the carpet to sit on the floorpan, it would pull it out from the edges. This was the case with both cars. A 75 Maverick and a 78 Chevy. It was a nightmare. Dave
