Catalytic converter

    It not off topic if its one of the variables in the original post.

    And when you find something that is not fitting correctly you go out and find why that is. Someone swapping a later engine would explain how it does have a catalytic converter on it.

    What really is off topic is your nit-picking. And I mean that in the expression form, not the literal form. Because knowing you, you'd get me on that also.

    the...engine... could be out of the car, it has nothing to do with the...catalytic converter...
    swapping in a different...exhaust system... might.

    I bought a 4dr parts car that was a 75 that had a 250ci and an exhaust manifold mounted converter. I was trying to use the manifold because my original one broke and it wouldn't mount to the up pipe, so I swapped the entire exhaust to use temporarily until I could find the correct one.
