I am repairing some leaks in the Power Steering...replacing some hoses. I noticed that the rubber on EVERYTHING between the Pittman arms from one side of the car to the other is cracked and is all original and looks like it should be replaced. The Pittman arms and actually new...but all the other bushing and rubber look shot.

What does everyone else do? doing some searching on the forums it looks like it's a PITA to fix these.

I assume this is pretty common for the age of our cars.

    Appreciate the advice.

maybe they are not that bad...but since I am down here, figured I would fix if needed.

I think the idler arm is good, but everything connect to the center link looks pretty cracked.

Opinions? I see there is a Moog replacement center link.

If nothing is actually loose you can just keep driving it till something is, otherwise only real fix is replace it all... I did just that on my Comet and a month ago same for my Cobra Jet...

Kits to rebuild valve, cylinder & pump are readily available, those along with inner & outer tie rods, idler arm, hoses etc was around $250... It was the additional $100 pressure hose for Fairlane that hurt my feelings...

    Rebuilt Comet linkage...

Steering parts are relatively inexpensive, you will definitely notice a difference in drive quality whether or not they feel loose. Most moog parts will also be serviceable with a grease cerk, which will promote longevity if maintained properly.

Moog no longer makes a center link for the Comet. Can't seem to find one anywhere.

The pin holding in the control valve got shaved off. Will try drilling it out or drilling a new hole.

I did all this with PS delete plus the A arms, lower control arms, roller spring perches and springs...then within weeks, dropped it all out gave it to Jeff and went RC-106 rack n pinion...:slap:

Good for you, I have no intention in hacking the original steering & suspension setup... Which is new on Comet and soon will be on the Cobra Jet...

never looked at upgrading to rack n pinion as "hacking".
nothing was wrong with the newly rebuilt system, just decided to go rack n pinion.

Well if anyone is aware of where you can find a centerlink for a 72 with power steering, let me know.

I have the one from my '72 but it's no better than what you have... When I put mine together I used one for a '77 that uses same idler as Granada... Has a pin in center link vs the press in bushing, other than the different idler, tie rods are same... These center links were used '75-'77, it's one pictured in my earlier post...

I might have one from a 73 laying around. Should be the same style as yours. I will have to look tomorrow.
