Terry your prep is good and will be well worth the effort, we seem to forget that most of these parts are covered with sweat and oils from our skin and this needs cleaning before anything will stick, just like painting the outside of the car, if its not clean and oil free it will not stick. denatured alcohol will clean off oil pretty well also. good job and good luck!! wayne
I'm finished. After lightly sanding the first coat of paint with 400 and 600 grit paper, I applied a good second coat of paint. As I sanded the first paint coat, it got down to primer in only a couple of spots and never got past the primer. I really think these hard door handles have permanent paint on them. Here's a couple of pics of the finished product.
Looks factory to me. Good Job. I guess the georgia boys are worth something after all no matter what John Ford says.....
Thanks for the comments. I will be putting the door panels and handles on the '77 this Sunday afternoon. I will post periodic reports on how well they hold up. Just a little side note on the installation: Since we tend to make do with we have, I'm going to use roofing paper as the vapor barrier on the doors. I'll cut the paper to fit and hang it with 3M caulk strips. I think this will be a good barrier and add a little insulation as well.
Are you really going to pay attention and listen to a guy who doesn't even know he has a MOPAR hood on his Maverick? BTW, Georgia is spelled with a capital G. Thank you very much.
BTW, Georgia is spelled with a capital G. Thank you very much. Well georgia used to be spelled with a capital G. But since all the yankees moved there it lost it's standing. LOL Just kidding. I'm a transplanted Yankee of southern parents. so I'm just confused. I was Born in PA with parents from NC. I guess they didn't like me much. : )
