Au contraire, Monsieur! I think an 8.8 with 3.73 limited slip is the best rear end for a '77 Maverick with an AOD and 250 I-6. I couldn't build an 8 inch close to that for $100 nor get a narrowed 9 inch with a 3.70 for a $100.
Now now Sir... if he's giving you $100 and bringing it to you, installing it and having it shortened and axles made... then it is cheaper
Andy, you've crossed into the Twilight Zone. Think about what you are saying. Frank...giving $100...to me? Do you actually think that can happen? Wake up, Boy!!!! Frank is my best good friend that lives on Sgoda Road. I like Frank.
He asked for the cheapest way lol That would be the cheapest.. Maybe he needs a friend other than Frank... one w/ less sense or something that would fall for it
I am not too proud I would get help from anybody. I know what I want it is just hard for me to get there as it relates to the rear end. I want it to be repectable on a 1/4 mile (so I need posi or something) but want to drive it on weekends. What would you guys recommend with the above criteria? I should say that I spend a wad on redoing completely the entire brake system. So an axle with disc brakes in the rear isnt what I would prefer. Your thoughts? My neighbor across the street owns 1/2 of a Ford dealer in Kansas (inheirited) he doesnt work there now. He works at GM. But spent 15 years working at the dealer and rebuilt six 302's himself. He is estimating 325 hp with our mods. He wants me to put in a 50-150hp NOS boost above and beyong the 325hp. I wont do it till I am satisfied with the car after the rebuild and get 2 thousand miles on the new motor. He is a great help for me as well as all you guys. Seats, carpet and new steering whell go in tomorrow. Then start on re-assembling the motor next weekend.
A guy on ebay is selling a 3.00 gear would that help? What does the 72 mav with 302/C4 have for a gear ratio?
hey hawkco, what did your best friend frank pull the 8.8 from? i had one from a 96 crown vic today w/ disk. but it looked to big and only had a 3.08 gear so i gave it back. what 8.8 is less of a prob. to put in a mav?
how many splines does my axle have? 302/C4 1972 is it 28? This may work but is costly. HE has all kind of ratios on his other ads. What ration is best for a land rocket? eBay Motors: FORD 8 INCH POSI -TRACK 4.11 RATIO GEARS MUSTANG/COUGAR (item 290 He has lots of other ratios
a 3.00 is more of a highway/gas mileage gear. a good racing gear is something like a 3.73 or lower a 3.50 is a pretty decent in between gear tho..
8" came with 28 spline axles. Is it a drag car, or a street and strip car? That will make a difference in your choice on gear ratio. A good drag gear will probably be too low to see much street use, and a good highway gear may not be enough to run in the powerband at the track. A 4.11 is about as low as I would go on the street unless you have a overdrive tranny, because the motor will be running a high rpm all the time, killing gas mileage.
