When I look up "Maverick" in my dictionary, the second definition it gives is " a non-conformist". Go for iot 70grabberman, and ignore those who think their way is the only way. John B.

I can understand the desire to be differnt, to stand out, to have something no one else has, but I really think you need to think about this first. You can put nearly any engine in any car with enough money and work, but, is it really worth it? By the time you finish modifying the Maverick for the Chevy motor, you could have bought a real nice Nova or early Camaro for less money and had a combo that worked like it was supposed to. I know the street rod guys have be doing it for years but it really is like comparing apples and oranges when you get down to the frame and suspension designs. A lot of the street rodders are now putting 5.0s in there cars to keep it all one brand. Think about it, it may be possible to put a 454 in a VW bug, but is it worth it just to be differnt? Just because you can do something is not always the right reason to do it. Just my opinon, it's your car, do what you want with it.

when i was younger I had a lot of friends with the box style camaro's 3 of them had 305 and 1 had 350.. The car I had kept up or beat all the 305's but the 350 on other hand beat me like there was no tomorrow. As of gears and all that stuff everything was the same.

    Your point?

Its your car and you can do what you like with it. You can also call it anything you like. But dont expect a bunch diehard Ford fans to be enthusiastic about such a ridiculous project such as that (IMO). Predjudice? Of course we are. Geeze, do we have to explain everything to ya?

Yeah, that's why I decided to go with the Ford Boss 302...keep the same cubic inches. Folks are gonna be impressed when they pop the hood on this Z28. I'd keep it all Chevy but the Chevy 302 ain't got nothing on the Boss engine. :bananaman

I don't get the whole Ford vs. Chevy thing. A cool car is a cool car no matter who makes it. What difference does it make?

Two 1973 LDO Mavericks (one 4 Drag one 4 driving like Mad on the roads :) ) also have a 75 6cyl Stock! Ok, well sort of Stock :P
i'm gonna but a RB26 (er... for you non import people thats a nissan skyline motor) in my other maverick hows that!:p

i don't know i usually don't stick my head into post about these kinda of things but if anyones excuse is that if you gonna put a chevy in a ford because its cheaper.... that may have been the fact 15 years ago but man ford small black parts are alot cheaper now and almost the same as most chevy small block parts these days. i know grabberman that you already have a motor so i guess that make some sence but.... if you are gonna do it all i have to say is it will problably cost just as much and about 10xs the time or more to convert that maverick to fit that chevy.

good luck chevyman.. oops i mean grabberman :p :D hey as long as your having fun.

and one more thing, think of it this way.. if i went on camaro forms board and told everyone i was puting a 351w in it the response would be the same as it is here about putting a chevy in a ford...

    Thanks Maine Mav,
Have a 289 motor out of a 65 Mustang, all balanced and blueprinted, was having trouble finding mounts and transmissions for a standard. As you know Fords are all different on trans and mounts. Chevy's are all interchangable. Will post pics tommorrow, painted the car black with rainbow metalflake from the house of colors. Turns colors as you walk around it! My wife thinks I should put Grabber stripes back on it but am thinking of putting flames on the side. Wanta have it ready for the drags this Spring, drove my street car ( Berretta ) last summer. Won every stock race!!! Had a blast! Were not Ford haters we love all classics!! Had a 67 1/2 Ragtop Firebird mint, been in the barn for 18 years, kid that owned it died in the war and parents put it in the barn when the estate was sold there it was as he had left it. Wife made me sell it because I wanted to change the motor and soup it up. We just like hot cars!!! This one is HOT!! Will post pics tommorrow!

    Hawco,
Would have loved to buy your car. Parts would have been interchangable then I could have left my car all original. Not easy to find parts for a car 24 yrs old!! Bought the car for a song put a custom paint job on it and now trying to get it to go down the road. Any port in a storm, have a lot of access to Chevy parts! No intention to desicrate any vehicles just want to be able to get them moving. And your right, Chevy fanatics would probably be just as critical. I'm a hotrod builder who the ends always justify the means. American all the Way Ford, Chevy, Chrysler
