No mine just has a 4 digit DSO, mine is even more a little plain than yours, it does not have drip rail molding or chrome boomerangs. The original owner I bought it from could not afford a Grabber but wanted a v8 bucket seats and a floor shifter so she ordred just the cheapest base model and had them install the rest. $2,344 for the car then the bucket seats and door panels were $101.00, floor shift $61.00. I wonder how much extra to get the rest of Grabber package it would have cost Wouldnt it be nice to order a car the way you wanted it like back in the day
Aint that the truth!!!! Now you get 3 interrior colors and 2 engine choices...it just sad I like your mav the way it sits now... but hey its your toy man!!! Do what makes you(and your wife) happy with it.
I really like your car the way it is but at the end of the day it is your car. Follow your gut and enjoy the end product. Most of what you would do would be bolt on modifications with the exception of the stripes. If you had to go with stripes, I would think that an argent color stripe would look sweet on it. - Matt
I have always liked ratrods so i think I am going that route, some people might think I am ruining the Maverick but that is my taste. If there weren't certain laws in texas my 250 I6 would have six exhaust pipes ripping straight up through the hood and I would also synchronize six HSR48 carbs with individual intakes. Car would have no trim and painted charcoal metallic black. rip all the carpet and line-x the floor. transmision would be a four speed manual with a metal zombie arm making a fist as the floor shifter.
I would add sport mirrors, comet GT hood scoop and rear spoiler ... and leave everything else as is .... If you could find a matching chrome passenger mirror that would look pretty good too.
I really want to put the sport mirrors on and that will be my next mission, just that one touch will at least make the car sportier looking. I have though very seriously about putting on Maverick Mans carbon fiber cowl hood, I have one on my 72 Grabber and really love it. If you have ever seen one in person you would know what I am talking about, the gray color of the hood with the blue of the car would be killer.
I'd leave it alone,it being an oddball that HASN'T been all Grabber'd up makes it that much cooler to me.
I wouldnt touch it. I like the look. Personally I'm not a huge fan of sport mirrors. I like the old chrome mirrors. I would like to find a matching right side for mine. Not saying mine wont get sport mirrors down the road. I may get bored with the look and change it. If your happy with your look keep it. If your getting a bit bored with it then change it up a bit. I dont think it needs a stripe though. Grabber spoiler and black out the grill and headlamp surrounds. If you dont want to sacrifice the originals you could pick up a grill and surrounds to black out.
Most folks like the original 71 -72 grabber for its unique hood and also in the comet ,the GT hood brings that extra appeal. If you ask any person to be honest they have in one way or another cloned there car to look like a 71-72 grabber by using its hood, this also happens with the comet GT hood. I happen to own two original 71 grabbers both factory v8 floor shift cars , but im also cloning two 69.5 cars with the 71-72 hoods and spoilers because the truth is they are the nices in my opinion and most others of all the small bumper grabbers. If you want to clone a 71-72 do it .
I really like it now, but you can always paint another hood, trunk, and 1/4 extensions (so you can take back to stock in a few bolt-on minutes).
The car looks awesome as is, but part of the fun with these cars is to make them true to your own personality. I've been told many times that with Mavericks, making changes doesn't really effect the value (unless you've got one of the really rare ones). That being said, I'd make a few changes that would make you feel even better about the car. I like the suggestions Dan made about the Comet hood scoop (which are easy to get since they re-pop them), as well as the rear spoiler. As far as the stripes and the color of your car, I think silver would look great, and maybe rather than black, you could paint the rear tail light area silver as well, with blacked out tail light trim. Just some suggestions, but again, make the car have the personality that feels right to you... and enjoy it!
I like yours just the way it is,it's got a really clean look.I'm cloning my '70 into a black '71 Grabber ONLY because I had one almost new and always wanted another one,I know I'm going to hear at the shows,"Is this a REAL Grabber?"with people thinking I'm trying to "pull" something, but with a 357 Windsor,4-speed,Must.II,roll cage, and ladder bar coil over rear, who cares if it's a REAL Grabber,I built Street Rods for 25 yrs. and Always built what I wanted, and didn't really care if other people liked it or not...do what makes you happy!!
ive parted out V8 2dr's, V8 Grabbers, a V8 Comet GT and a Stallion and never thought twice about it but when i found my "Smurf" ('71 2dr) i just couldnt part it out because it was different. i added the hood and spoiler because of it's sporty looks because -I- thought it looked better...... point in case, do what you wanna do with it, Mike... it's your's
Thanks for all the input, it looks as though it all boils down to as far as value whatever I do it will not hurt the value. I am a little surprised at what Craig,Dan and Dave said as I consider them to be Maverick purest and would say leave it alone. I was just looking for some wow factor in the car but a true Mavericker will appreciate the car for what it is and who cares what anybody else thinks, as with most people that drive a Maverick it doesnt matter where you go somebody is going to comment about the car. I went out and sat in it and started it and listened to the stereo since the weather is too bad to take a drive and you know what, the car is just fine the way it is, so I will resist the temptation to mod it out at least for now.
