I cut about 1/2 coil on my 74 with 250 I6. It's lower but I can't really tell yet if I need to cut more,as the car is still a part.... 3 yrs here since I started this project with my son..cough, cough. he's 18 now and for some reason likes hanging out with the cute girls more then me. Did almost nothing with the car last year. I have been on it 3 days this week and hopefully this summer will have it in paint.
Inside the fender well is the rubber stop. The piece of metal that it is attached to, is called what? Is it needed? Can I safely remove it without messing something up? Or, am I not supposed to remove that? If you don't know what I'm talking about, its a piece of metal mounted onto the shock tower and its in my way.
Josh, you can unbolt that piece and get it out of your way...just be sure to put it back in after you reinstall the spring. It is necessary.
When I dropped my 302 in my 73 2D (Originally I6 250) My front end actually raised. Could it be the center of gravity shifted?
No ...this has been discussed several times here before. Some of us are convinced that Ford made several different front coil springs for our cars. I have seen a few v-8 conversions that ended up sitting higher than they did with the six. My car has a set of 1969.5 6 cyl springs (in my opinion the weakest coils they made) that have one full coil cut off of them.
you aren't alone! i have 6 cyl springs and had to cut 1 1/2 coils off to get the height i needed on the front.
I still have the 6cyl springs in my car, and it did not change the ride height when I put the V8 in it. I'm thinking about cutting them, but only when I do a rebuild on the front end. Sits ok.
All done. Took all day, but its done. I'll see in a few weeks, if i need to chop more. Thanks for all the help.
Looks like i sits pretty good to me. Might even settle down a little bit more. Or maybe not since you are keeping the 6 in it.
