When I cut my spring, I cut the bottom so it still had the flat "transition coil" at the top. It looked exactly like it did before I cut, except just a bit shorter.

First of all, you're not supposed to cut the top of the spring, you're supposed to cut the botom. Second, heating is never better than cutting. Cutting is fast, easy, and does not mess with the temperment of the steel. You can cut in increments until you achieve the desired vehicle height. Third, no professional or expert "heats" springs to lower a car. That is the half-assed way people (who didn't know any better) did it in the '50s and '60s. Heating doesn't make them soft, it makes them brittle. I understand that you are not talking about heating the entire spring, but there's really no point when you can just do a quick cut like many of us here have. Mine turned out great, and even on both sides...

this is right from Eibach can't say they aint right since they make them :D

    A. Heating or cutting a coil spring in order to lower a vehicle is just plain foolish. These procedures are very dangerous and at the very least results in poor handling due to the changing of the original springs characteristic and pre-load.

    Detailed Explanation:

Heating changes the tensile strength of the material which will cause the spring to sag quickly over time and/or simply break. Cutting the spring changes the stress load of the material, meaning the spring will be overstressed (less material to hold the spring rate) which again will cause the spring to sag quickly over time and/or simply break. Not to mention you have now become the engineer and manufacturer of the suspension springs and if they fail or cause an accident or even death--you are now responsible!

    end of discussion :D

personally i cut and cut the bottom and since eibach don't make springs for our cars anymore or mustangs we have no choice :D

i also say do what you want but i always love to say i told you so. :rofl2:

Maverick Man, since you cut your springs, you are now
So join us on the stand when us "engineers" are put up for whatever may happen from cutting our springs :D

;) I am glad you mentioned that....I think 1 coil is almost too much for a daily driver....I have more than one cut off of my car....its for looks only and it does not see the street....well not much, I just could not imagine having to be that conscience of road all the time.
