my gas front shocks are American (came in the RC-107 kit) 9" #500 springs...13 1/2" eye centers.
I was looking at them today. I had the car on my lift and when I let it down I noticed that when the front tire touched the floor that it settled 3 1/2" before stopping. I press on the frontend and there is no compression.
I pulled my coilover off and there was 3 1/2" of travel in the shock. I'm thinking it is bottomed out on the shock body, could this be true? with the shock out of the spring I could push it in and pull it out and there was little resistance.
if the spring is the correct rate at #500 I was thinking it should have maybe 1 3/4" compression max.
I would like to get a set of QA1 replacement shocks and use my springs.
any help on how to choose the correct shock would be greatly appreciated.

I would contact them direct, I spoke with a couple guys at a trade show and they were great. When I told the what I had and my plans they started asking questions and offering advice, part of it being call when your ready and we'll help get you what you need.

I've got 450#'s on mine and there's plenty of travel left.

it felt as tho the front shocks were bottoming out so I was going to replace them. I called Rodger to inquire if the QA1s they use in their kits now would fit my earlier kit (nope). in the conversation He asked what the paint code on the springs were. when I told him He said I had the wrong springs. He asked if my shipping address was the same and sent me the correct set...:thumbs2:
I should have it back together today and road tested...:drive:...:chirp:
