anyone ever found a decent tow hitch set up for a maverick? the two i saw in the 80s (one on an uncles 2 door and one on my dead four door) required drilling through the rear frame into the trunk for some stupid reason. the uncles tore off when he was towing a boat so there was definately something not right there.
no actually, it was pretty similar to the one in the picture above. course it tore free when he came to a sudden stop hitting the side of someone who cut him off.
havent owned a comet yet, not my relatives either. not that id turn one down, especially towing a ski boat
there is really not enough structure for a good tow hitch on a maverick...no frame for strength and forget bumper mount, just not worth it.....
The book gives recommendations for classes of hitches and tongue weight limits suggested by Ford on various models. Interestingly, this was '71-it gives suggestions for Mavericks with what is identified as the standard 200 6 cyl. with manual 3 spd. and standard 250 cyl a/t for the Comet. Was the Comet std. engine in '71 a 250 while the Maverick std. engine was a 200? Seth
That's a real pic, and I sure would like to have that Comet now. Makes you wonder what Ford ever did with all the cars it used in it's advertisements.
