I put a hitch on my Sprint when it was about 2 years old. It had a brace that went inside the trunk which mated to the same brace on the outside of the sheet metal. That was on the vertical surface in the front of the cutout in the trunk. The brace ran horizontally. A big bar bolted to the brace, ran down the front, under the gas tank, and out the back which became the tounge of the hitch. In the back was a horse shoe shaped brace which kinda framed the license plate and bolted to the panel along the same plane as the bumper mounts. Inside there were big fender washers to strengthen the inside. The hitch was made by Valley which was a major manufacturer of them back then. The hitch was very well constructed. I towed alot of stuff with that set up, even with my little 200. Probably over loaded it more than i should have. When I took the hitch off back in the early 90's There was a perfect crack outline of the front brace where the sheet metal was about to break off. I had thought of adding a hitch to my Comet but I will fabricate my own and weld it to the frame rails.
I took a hitch off of the '73 bumper parts car that I scrapped. It was chrome! It attached at 2 points to the rear frame and then at 2 points on the bumper. It was slightly bent so I tossed it, not that I would have used it. Seth
That looks just like the GT I bought new in 1971. I didn't have to worry about a hitch. After I bought the car I couldn't afford a boat
Ronald- It should look like the one that you have now-as soon as you get the stripes on. How are you doing with that? I have your pics scanned but have not shrunk them to post them yet. Looking good. Seth
You obviously haven't seen the Maverick listed on eBay right now...best looking trailer hitch I think I've ever seen!!!Somebody better jump on this one
now that is a sturdy, well centered hitch . i think ill mount one like that to pull a big 30' plus trailer.
Only thing I'd pull with that hitch is the tricycle in the background. Geeeze. I guess Mr Garrison was right when he said, " There are no stupid questions, only stupid people."
