I saw your car down there Friday, and have seen it elsewhere. It's a beauty. I talked to the guy with the blue Mav. too, we were both bidding against each other on Ebay for those Fly front wheels a month ago. He won, I told him at least I made him pay more for them. He didn't think that was very funny.
Thanks for posting the pic's, Mick. Very very nice indeed. I bet there surely weren't a whole lot of '71 GT's built with that specific color combo and options. At this level of restoration I can't see you not having one already but will still ask anyways.. do you have a Marti Report on this car? Could you elaborate on production numbers for Green on Green '71 GT's?
My car is a clone - it is a copy of my first car. I did get a Marti report but it was on the clone which was just a regular Comet with a 302 and air.
Well the Comet didn't win anything at Autorama but I had a fantastic time. It's hard to compete with trailer queens and I don't have the cash to put into the elaborate displays. The Blue 74 Maverick did win first place in its class and a specialty award. It was absolutely unbelievable how many people stopped to talk to me and how many turning heads, smiles and pointing fingers I saw when people passed the car. The best comment I heard "These cars just don't exist - this must be a hologram"
I got the spoiler here on the forum. His username is spoilersbyrandy. Price when I got mine was $160 a couple of years ago. Don't know if he still has them or what the price is. You can do a search to find the thread.
The blue Maverick is mine. I finished it right before I left for the show. A lot of people talked to me about my Maverick, and many said they had seen the Comet as well. There were a lot of fans of our cars there. And as far as the wheels, my maximum bid was $1500. I was really happy to buy them for $550.00.
