    Thanks, Chip. Was more a curiosity and along my same line of thought on the backup light requirements. I was parts hunting this morning and figured it was an easy enough question for the Maverick and Comet veterans. Thanks again.

    Did a quick search and they have been required by law for sometime before those tail lights were ever produced. Those have been spliced and either the seller has no clue or they are a jack hat trying to hose someone.

    By time the '71 Comets appeared, I believe the Fed was mandating backup lights(yes already posted), are listed as std equipment..

    AFAIK most if not all the "safety" features being touted were Fed mandates...

    lol.. almost sorry I asked. Now I feel like I had another of those "duh moments" even moreso than usual. :)
