:bananaman Ya might be rite,,,,, But I wish all who look at the Composit parts pole would Vote,,, I am hoping to get these done and to market quick as possible,,, But I do want to see what the comunity is looking for on those,,,, Being Busy is a good thing,,,when all this hits the market,,,Im taking a day off,,,, some 22 diferant parts about to come out in the next couple of weeks,,,,, Joe
I want one with a parrot living in it. Seriously though. What is this material and when can we get our hands on this stuff? You are doing our little community such a huge service! Please know that is is appreciated.
Composite automotive parts are being used on cars every day. I recently replaced an entire composite radiator support in a vehicle. Lots of cars (mostly GM) are using composite body panels such as fenders, hoods, and even doors. I'm really happy to see this become available to us for our cars. Here's a little article on SMC 3374 that gives a little insight: http://www.sae.org/automag/techbriefs_10-00/08.htm
I haven't voted because I couldn't decide whether it mattered or not (the material choice). If it's better I'm all for it, but it's a change, and like most people, I don't like change. I see metal having certain advantages, and composite having others. Is this material repairable with fiberglass bondo? Interesting link Ray, but I'll have to read it later, I'm too tired to comprehend right now.
Speaking of Camaros: Someone backed into my Z28 in a parking lot. Crunched the driver fender and nose. Looked nasty. Insurance replaced all the parts. I told the body shop that I wanted the broken stuff. After sitting in the garage rafters for 3 hot summer months, I took them down and they had gone back to original shape. I found folks willing to pay for them... Good stuff.
Is why I think the Composit parts for Vallences will be great,,, couple of days in the sun,,,put it back on,,,maybe repaint but no rusting,,,no denting,,, and a better cost,, and can be suplied alot quiker,,, Joe
I am still waffling on my vote depending on how the composite material would be to work with if exhaust cutouts were wanted, etc. I mean, it probably would be easy enough to cut, but if you wanted a lip around the cutout, can it be done in fiberglass? I know the demand for valences would be there, especially among the guys that are doing bumper conversions. Pretty cool that it pops back out to its original shape.
One of the reason we want to make them is the ease in doing just that,,, they will retain there shape and the ease of cutting out is there,, plus any major mistakes,,, get another one,,, it was kinda thought of for those who wanted to make cut outs for exhaust and or lights,,, This material is pretty tough stuff,, working with it allows allot,,,,, Joe
After watching my buddy fix my Maverick grill with plastic panel adhesive, I'd say making cut outs would be a breeze. He was able to cut the pieces, glue, sand and fill it in a matter of minutes and it looked pretty much factory after he was done. Sure this would be a similar process.
Dont get me wrong,,, it is easy to cut out these,,,they dont dent,,,, but we also plan on making metal ones as well for the people that want the cars OEM,,, the composit vallences will just be available allot faster,,, and for those who know how easy the metal can be damaged,,, they can use composit for now,,and install the metal if they plan on having the car judged,,, or selling it Joe
