So Last Fall my son and I got the engine to turn over, but we had no power to the distributor. The original starter gave us around 10 to 12 tries before it stopped working.
We gave up for the winter (and Spring).
I bought a mini starter and new ignition.
We found the original ignition was "melted".
The starter looked brand new when I removed it.
I wired the starter according to the provided diagram. Original starter wire from right of solenoid to the left (positive bat side) running to the top post on mini starter solenoid and 10g wire to blade terminal on mini starter solenoid.

Now, we are having issues where we only get power randomly with the key in the on position.
Then nothing when key is in start position.

Key in on position 9 out of 10 times gets no power.

Should I be looking at the ignition switch?
