The upper mount is probably so far back, because the shoulder belt had to be stored up there on the hanger when not in use, and the length of the belt.

I wouldn't cut your panels if you're considering moving the b post mount forward. My Comet had the retractor in the floor just ahead of the quarter trim panel in a plastic box and a few of the aftermarket belts I researched had this option as well. I did mine that way to retain the upper mount and the hole I cut was straight down from it so it made sense at the time. I also didn't realize how much difference the shoulder belt upper mount location makes as far as comfort is concerned. If I were taller it would be fine but the belt slips up over the top of my buckets if you move around much. If I keep these seats, I plan to sew a strap onto the side of the seat as a guide for the shoulder belt similar to what they use in the Ford GT. It unsnaps on one side to allow the belt to be removed if necessary.

Thank you for the great feedback. Because of this post I will move the seat belt forward to the stock lower location and move the upper to a new location above the B-pillar. I will also plan on ordering them with a drop, which should make them more comfortable.

Does anyone know how long the buckle side was that you guys have installed for a bucket seat?

Post back when you git 'er done. I'll be replacing my cheapo E-Bay belts soon since they're just a hair too short to be comfortable. And I do not remember the length as these were ordered for a Pontiac G-6 (which is what the seats are from) with the tunnel ends "chair mounted".

My buckle end is a little too long in retrospect at 20" overall. It could probably between 3 and 6" shorter to put the buckle in a more comfortable spot depending on seat position. Mine feels a little high for my taste. If you have the original buckle, you might want to put the seat where it is comfortable for you and place the buckle where you would like it before you order.

What I found with my setup is that if the buckle sits too low, the shoulder strap rides higher across your chest and if its too high the buckle sits against your hip which isn't very comfortable either. All of this will depend on seat position since the belt buckle is anchored to the floor, not the seat and the the size of the driver. A really thin person might prefer a shorter buckle and a stockier person may be ok with the extra length.

I used belts from Andover Restraints (www.andoauto.com/seat_belts.htm)

Mine are made for a Maverick, and be sure to get the ones with the 8" extenders for the Maverick/Comet.
