I tried to glue mine together last night. The auto parts store really pushed this special glue for plastics, however it didn't work for me, just made a mess. Then I tried some other 2-part glue I had, not sure how well that did either (letting it dry, I'll check tonight), but I can already see the crack is still visible, so I'm not thrilled. What's the best kind of glue to use?
I just repaired mine. I fiberglassed it from behind and used glazing puddy on the front. The fiberglass adds alot of strength. Did the trick for me.
Go to a Hobby or Craft Shop and pick up some Pacer Zap-A-Gap along with some Zip Kicker. It will glue just about anything. The kicker will cause the glue to cure instantly just don't use the kicker on an area that will be seen as it will leave a white residue behind. Play with it on some scrap materials so you can see how it works.
Been doing more research, came across a Ford color code 9R, Duplicolor part number DSFM286. The color says it's Dark Charcoal Metallic, which sounds exactly like what Dan was referring to with the '84 Mustang color. However, I've only located this on-line and cannot find a color swatch to confirm it's match. Has anyone used this color? Am I on the right track? Art
You can get it from National Parts Depot, they have a location in Michigan. P/N AP-4464 - page 238 of the Mustang catalog www.npdlink.com
Keep in mind ... I painted my entire dash that color and it looks just like the original. If you are painting just one part and expect it to match the original dash it may not be perfect.
No, I don't expect to find an "exact" match, but as long as it's close. Someday I'll re-paint the entire interior, then it'll all look good, but for now close is good enough.
I spoke with a guy at work who just built an old mustang and said that Dupli-Color makes a Ford specific Semi-gloss Black (DE1635) that is supposed to be really close for the 60's/early 70's Fords.
