my last 2 cams have been lunati and both cam cards stated that if i installed per the card it would be 4 deg advanced. i still put it on the 4 deg slot of the gear and felt that it gave the best performance. much of the optimum setting is determined by the engine combo and the intake centerline of the cam. as a rule, advancing the cam will improve bottom end response, and retarding will improve upper end power. (additional games can be played with lash settings if its a solid lifter cam that can improve bottom or top end, and even tell you if the motor wants a bigger or smaller cam.) the only true way to tell is to try it both ways and see which way is best. some people feel that another way to test it is to install it each way and do a cranking compression test, and the way with the highest cylinder pressure should yield the best performance. if you leave it at 8 deg adv, check your intake clearance to the piston and make sure its not too close.

That's kinda what I thought. But the idea of going back in to it again doesn't appeal to me at all. :( If I go the opposite way and it falls on it's face, I don't wanna have to go back into it for the third time and put it back to where I have it.

So, I'll just leave it as is :lazyazz:

    Thanks for the input.
