How many sets does that make? Then you know the minimum order...? Lame excuse tho. And the material may be plain raw steel which isn't worth it in my opinion. I like the ones here: http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=24841
What does that have to do with these? Those are good headers, of course, but they are for totally different buyers/cars than the Crites. The shorties are for mild to moderate performance street cars, and keeping ground clearance on street exhaust. The Crites are for putting the largest possible 'off the shelf' headers on a fairly radical 302 based engine or for 351w swaps. The shorties don't even come close to covering a 351w swap. So again, how do they compare as an alternative?
by my calculations if the average tube length of 36" that 5000 ft order will make about 18 sets of headers that can be sold pretty fast for a group buy brad
Your calculations are a bit off. If 5000 ft of tubing will make 18 sets that is just under 278 ft per set. It is probably around 150 sets with a generous scrap allowance.
I read "small block" and I suppose I didn't know this was about a swap... The Crites are not on "the shelf" anymore, right? I also thought the shorties is good for a somewhat radical built motor... Maybe I just don't know what i'm talking about...
Hooker 65-66 351w Stang headers work with mods to the engine bay. 1.75" tubes on these. Tubular makes a set of 1.5" tube swap headers, but that is REALLY small tubes for a 351, and forget a stroker! The extinct headers are now: Hedman swap headers, 1.5" tubes. Crites, 1.75" tubes. Untried possibility: JBA makes a set of 351w in 65-66 Stang shorties... They are very expensive though. I doubt anyone has experimented with these. Good chance they will fit. Then there are always stock Maverick 302 manifolds.
Yeah, so have I. I think the difference has always been in the engine mounts. My opinion anyway. I notice that folks doing the swap and posted problems with manifolds, are also ones posting threads asking about engine mounts and how to make them work. Gut feeling is that the 2 issues are related.
nascar is using tri-y hedders on all their motors...so their has to be a power gain with that configuration... does some have a part number/picture for the doug thorley tri-y for mavericks????? BTW I have DT tri-y on my 63 fairlane SC 4speed and they are perfect !!!!
* Summit still lists the 88660 351W early stang swapper Hedmanns for @ $150.00. Old stock? or where you refering to a different model Hedmann?
Do they have a Tri-Y for a Maverick? I haven't heard about that one. I put a Mustang Tri-Y set on my Sprint... and they didn't fit. At the time I was looking for a very mild setup, and the Stang version has very small tubes for torque production. Anyway, the steering and the Z-bar both hit. Edit: One thing about NASCAR... what works on their cars is often not going to work on the street, or is not worth the money vs power gain. They are known to spend many thousands, even hundred thousands, to gain 1 or 2 rwhp out of a part. So what they do is either not geared for the RPM range of a street engine, or is an expensive mod that is not cost effective for a street engine. Just some thoughts.
I don't recall the part number. However, I believe it was specifically listed as a Maverick part. If it just says 65-66 Mustang, it is probably close, but it is a gamble. The Tri-Ys should fit. I gambled with those, and lost.
