im actually buying a 351w for my 72. i have a set of stock 77 manifolds on hand but if i can get headers for a reasonable price im down
Well, I gambled about that same money on mine. Give it a shot if you can spare the 150... Then if they don't fit, use the manifolds and sell the headers as unused scratch/dings. Even after I used my Tri-Ys and dented the pi$$ out of them, then left them to rust for 2 years, I still got 30 bux out of them from a Mustang guy at a Ford swap meet. If yours don't fit, and you don't brutalize them like I did, you should be able to recoup substantially more of your money. Just a thought. Good luck Oh, and if they do work, and you pass the word here, you will be someone's hero eventually, for being the guniea pig. I like to think I helped someone by trying the Tri-Ys and finding out they don't fit a Mav. Now others won't have to gamble the 150 bux.
Do they have a Tri-Y for a Maverick? I haven't heard about that one. I have not seen or heard DT tri-y's for mavericks and that is why I was asking for a part number or a picture...both of my mavericks have 6901's and no issues ...
Im so choked. I was going to buy a set a year ago, and now i've waited to long. So what do you use? I have a 351w stroked with victor jr. heads.... 1.5" headers are not going to cut it. Someone mentioned Hooker 65-66 351w Stang headers work with mods to the engine bay. 1.75" tubes on these! What mods have to be done to the engine bay? Any other headers??? btw...If your trying to get ppl together to buy a bunch at once. I'm in. cash in hand.
Below my avitar is a link called "Images"... I saved some pics there from an old thread where a member listed all the little mods he made to the headers. And did so very well I should add. The black tape on the tubes is where there were minor issues. Some folks just dented the tubes in those spots, but this member modded the bay instead. There is a pic of where he had to grind some bumps off the steering box, where he had to indent the front frame rail, and where he had to mod an engine mount to clear. Those are what I remember. You would have to do a search to find the thread, or just study the pics and determine if it's something you have the tools to do.
I got an email from Crites saying they buy enough steel to make about 700 sets of headers at a time. If we get 700 committed orders they'll make'em. Piece of cake, right?
Well isn't that good customer service... They can't convince me that there is no way to get tubing for less than 700 sets of headers. They could buy enough tube to make 10 and do just fine. If they can't, and are worried about profit margin, then I suppose they need to raise the price of the headers. I don't really want to say that, but it is what it is... If the tube costs more to only make 10-20 sets, then if we really want the parts, we would pay the difference. Now if they refused to pass that cost on to us, then I would say they are making excuses for some reason.
Here's the exact email exchange: Me: I realize you guys have discontinued these headers, bet they seem to be the best for the application. Alot of the guys on the Maverick Message board have been talking about getting together to have a few made. How many committed orders would it take to get them going again? Thanks! Them: To be honest right now orders is not the problem getting the pipe is becausee all the mills want us to buy 5000' of this pipe and we are luck to use 1000' feet a year for the small block applications. We are trying to find another mill with a lesser demand of pipe order but have had no luck so at this time unless we can fill 5000' of order which is about 700 pair of header they will not be any time soon. Thanks Jessica She contradicts herself saying getting orders isn't a problem and then saying they need enough orders to use 5000' of pipe.
you can build your own or a local fab can.......figure on 800.00 1200.00 I am almost done with a set of 1 3/4 for my brothers car with RHS heads....
I agree...it sounds like nonsense to me. So there's noooooooowhere in the world where they can get less than 5000 feet of tubing? The way the economy is, no company is willing to sell less than 5000 feet at a time? Give me a break... Exactly...less than 5000 feet will probably cost more, which would raise the cost of the headers. Figure out how much, tell those of us that have inquired about them how much more the headers would be and see if we still want 'em. Of course I have no idea why they really don't want to make them, but this excuse sounds like some kind of to me.
Why not just make the headers out of the same 1 3/4" tubes that they make the rest of their headers from?
They said they are not making any small block headers. Their big block headers are 2" tubing. This will probably just make them mad. If you really want the headers find them someone that will sell smaller quantites of tubing at a reasonable cost.
I made my own. 2" to 2 1/8" step tube custom headers. I ordered blank flanges and put the holes exactly where I needed them. Cost of all parts from Stahl headers, $450. Before I got started, I had a local header builder (builds nascar headers) quote me a price and he said $2000-$2500.
