I finally gave up looking for a shag carpet for my comet. After changing my mind about 2000 times about If I wanted cut pile or loop I decided on the ACC cut pile, because there are more colors available and one of them Camel Tan is very close to the color of the original carpet.

Today I received the carpet (a birthday present from my wife:biggringi, she also gave me hood-pins that are on the way) and am I happy:bananaman .

Bought the stuff on eBay SS classic warehouse .

Let us know how they fit...One of my next investments. I think the wife and I have finally agreed on interior colors... We figure the charcoal gray will go with anything, and won't show my greasy footprints as bad :yikes:

I used a ACC carpet in my 73, I found that I had to let it sit for a couple of days, it gets pretty folded up in the box, and there is alot of extra around all the edges, this picture is when I first layed it in the car. I went for the loop, I'm not a fan of cut pile, loop looks much neater.

Dave, is there something you can do to the carpet to make it lay better sooner, like hair dryer or mist it with water (or in south texas, just open the windows and let the humidity hit it :D )?

Maybe dry clean it before installation?

I just let it sit in the car for a couple of days, the heat seemed to help it, it looks alot better now than it did in the pic, I think that was right out of the box.

    Cool (y)

So how did you drive to work with the carpet sitting on the floor, no seats in, etc.?

Must have taken a couple days off

Got a perfect color match sample 2x3" from from acs/dorsett...80/20 500 series #512 called sky blue, not in any of the charts by that name..must be a new color...more blue than dr blue but not as dark as mid-night..looks great sitting on the hump for color comparisions to repainted interior and dash.

ACC was the only one I could find a match from, I've compared the new to the old, and if its not perfect, it's really close. They have quite a few custom colors, I was thinking of putting an Orange carpet in my White with Orange striped 74...

Got my carpet in for my birthday...need to find a couple days off and friend to help me get the bench seat out and back in... What is the best way to get the bench seat out? Pull the center pins and side and take each of the backs off, and pull out the bottom, or can you do as is??

Got carpet from Mustangsunlimted on ebay...carpet shipped from trim parts in Ohio...talk to Lynn very nice to deal with.

Maybe we should post here the interior codes of our cars and the matching colors from the carpet manufacturers.

Mine is a Mercury Comet 1974 the car originally had shag carpets but I gave up looking for them.

Trim PU – Tan - LDO (Luxury Decor Option)
The closest color match I found was from ACC Cut Pile color #7037 Camel Tan

to take the front bench seat out just get underneath and unbolt the seat bolts. lift it up and take it out the door. it comes out as 1 piece. the rear take the bottom cushion out and remove the 2 bolts that hold the back cushion in. lift up the rear and take it out. make sure you disconnect any wires.:)

I have found it easier to remove the front seat backs...and then the bottom.....but you can get it all out in one piece.
