Hope he reads this all before he goes to town on that car!!I would hate to steer him in the wrong direction.
Yea, me too. He will miss me suggesting to replace the (forgot the proper name) rubber at the top of the spring. Might get them and a front end check first before any work begins.
i told him about this site and that everyone has done it but what he has stuck in his mind is how his friends ****ed up their cars by chopping up springs..
Maybe if you could explain the benefits of it when done properly to him he may think it over some.Gene sayes you should get new spring isolators too when you do the cut.Dig up some posts on here pertaining to the job and let your dad see for himself.
ya i told him it would look way better and it wouldnt hurt anything but idk what hes thinking.. i even saw an episode of overhaulin' where, right at the end, they took the springs out of a mustang and cut out a coil to give it a better stance.. by my books, if chip foose does it then it musnt be all that bad..
Thanks for the clarification... Not sure there are any "benefits" but it would look better...that don't sound too good to an "old man" Now if you needed spring perches...the springs have to (almost) come out.
dont worry he definatly does not read this.. the only time hes on the computer is to look up songs to play on his guitar or when hes doing payroll at work..
mostly easy classic rock stuff.. hes not great but hes not bad... mostly plays his acoustic but he has a genuine fender stratocaster than he got for the badass deal of $600 that he sometimes plays..
Cool!! I love to crank out some Steivie Ray Vaugn on my fender from time to time.Ticks my wife off to no endThen of course my son chimes in with his Paul Reed smith($$$$ guitar) and we really drive the wife nuts
Three Things: 1. One does not cut the top of the spring......you cut the bottom of the spring where it rides in the spring perch. The top is wound flat so it fits up against the top of the shock tower. 2. Removing springs is VERY dangerous. I have done it many times and I have still had them shoot out and across the garage.....and I have the right tools. 3. Listen to your Dad. "Father Knows Best".
