In looking forward to the 15th Annual Roundup Nationals, I am actually going to do something I haven't done since 1998....DRIVE a Maverick to the Roundup Nationals!! Even when the Roundup Nationals was 20 miles from my house...I still trailered at least one of my Mavericks to the event. So it has been 10 years. I am actually looking forward to it, as I am sure the experience will be totally different than trailering a car that far.

The car: My 1976 4-door Maverick:

In order to drive a Maverick 565 miles to get there, some work has to be done.

First: Well....first thing I did was update the stereo (Gots to have my tunes!!). New dual voice coil dash speaker, new rear 6 x 9 Pioneer speakers, and new Pioneer CD head unit. Like in most of my stereo installations, I like to make the speaker installation entirely invisible. Once I finish up the install...I will post some pictures.

Second: The exhaust manifold was leaking and was cracked, so i first had to replace that. I described that here:
    http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=43331

Next: I will rebuild the carb and remove the rest of the smog equipment...since none of it worked anyways. I have also removed the AC condensor and dryer and sent them off to be rebuilt (Gots to have the cool breezes of AC for a trip like that). I also have an aftermarket cruise control to add to the Maverick as well.

I have a few other little projects I need to do as well in order to make the trip. I would love to hear from others what they are doing in order to be able to DRIVE their car to Washington D.C in July for the Roundup Nationals.

    You can say that again.

But......I won't go into the year I trailered a Ford Explorer home from Carlisle while my wife DROVE my 1970 Grabber!! (I thought the Explorer would be the rescue vehicle for my tow vehicle and/or the Maverick)

Hopefully in a couple of years I'll be able to drive the sprint back to the roundup. Good luck Craig. Awesome looking car.:)
