went to tucson for a points race this weekend. second time trial i had to get towed back to the pits. car wouldn't start in staging. found out the ignition switch was bad. jumpered it from the solenoid to the msd box. kept waiting for someone to say something when i had to jump out of the car and hit the power off switch at the rear. better lucky than good as every time i screwed up my opponent screwed up worse. went on to win the race. finished about 2 this morning. then grabbed about 3 hours nap in the motorhome. just got home a little while ago. think this is going to be a nap day. :D

Snorkel and swim fins were the appropriate gear this week in Arkansas. Took the Maverick up to the track Sat. so mavman could test and tune that night. Needless to say the rain returned and the whole thing was a wash. Returned Sunday with bright sunny skies and high hopes. The Maverick's first outing in four months was really satisfying if not plain awesome, in it's performance after the complete redo of the suspension. Details are in his post "99.9 finished".

As for my endeavors with the fairmont, not so good, ran the youngest son in timetrials with his mustang and spun like crazy off the line, 1.77 60's. He ran 9.48 in the 1000 to my 9.68. Oh well is just timetrials and I did take him out last race day in eliminations. Next run I heated the mickeys real good and got a 1.59 and 9.49, first round eliminations, I drew a cheby luv v8 power, now if you all remember, I am running a low dollar throwed together 302, after bustin the 331.

Knowing my car and looking at my log book and the lane I drew, should run a 9.45. He had dialed a 9.10 so just for spite, I dialed a 47, had a crappy light(603. but his was worse, 6.20} had him covered at the 1/8th and decided to gas it a couple times to keep from breaking out. Gave it one to many burps and he drove around me. He ran 5 over and I was 9 over, he got the win and I the yellow slip. Bought back in and drew a very fast Vega who I have raced many times and not won many rds. We get in the water box and I start the burnout, starter shuts us down as a 66 cheby has broke on the previous run and spewed parts all over.

About 7 to 8 mins go by before we resume, had backed up to the water and shut off the engine while waiting. Got the ok to start and hit the fuel switch and start button=, nothing happens, just no power to the starter. My friend in the Vega signals he will wait a few seconds to see if I can get it going, mavman lifts the hood and jumpers the solenoid and she fires up, "In reverse". Thought it was in neutral and the safety switch was doing it's job and this old bas*** 's brain took a vacation. Anyway, was so mad at myself did a 7500??? burnout. Mucho smoke and heat in the tires, Vega was dialed at 8.10 and I at 9.45, get a 5.70 light and rips off a 1.54 60ft, vega has a 5.38 and blows by me at the finish and I run it out at a 9.41. History is written for my day and ends up the clowds appear and water seeps up through the concrete and they call the remaining rounds. Split the purse with the winners of the three rounds run and we drink some beer and bench race for awhile. Sorry for the long post but maybe some will pick up an idea or two on what not to do and how full concentration is required at all times to get the all important win light. :slap:

i'm still working on the tuning bugs. 2 weeks ago i took it for it's first runs on a fri night ran 13.35 and 13.40:mad: went home and made a few adjustments, came back on sat for a points race. ran 12.95 and went to the semi's. this weekend ran at tucson. this track is usually .3 slower than phoenix because of the altitude. ran 13.00 first pass. adjusted the carb a little and got it in the .80's. that would be in the 12.50's at phoenix. got some more tuning to do, but the class i run has a limit of 12.00 so i don't want to go any faster than that. also on that 80's pass i hit the rev limiter in first gear so i think i'll have to bump that up a little to get some more rpm out of it. it did seem to pull all the way. i'm shifting at 5800 rpm. i may bump that to 6000 next time out to see what that does.

I went for the first time this year to Frederick, MD. The track is called 75-80 and is at best a poor track but you get your money worth because you can keep running in the test and tune lane after the class races. I made 11 runs and took home a HUGE 2-foot trophy for winning the class.

The only good thing I can say is I had some Sweet lights, .502, .504, .510, .511 and .535 The car ran a 10.68 with a 1.60 sixty foot and that's about where my sixty foot's stayed, a far cry from my 1.45's I'm use to but that’s what one should look for when the track not treated at all.

Looks like its time for some caltracks:cool:

Hey Don I'll trade you my REALLY big trophy for some of that purse money. LOL

Did your motorhome run ok and how much is fuel there?
I Haven't got out with mine yet I'm still trying to fix the switches for my A/C units. The A/C's work but the double throw switches will only let power go to the front unit, I've hot wired the back and it works fine but not with the switches. I'll figure it out.
I'm going to go Memorial Day weekend for 3 days and that will be my first trip with the motorhome.

With the price of gas its hard to take the motorhome for a one day at the races my old F150 inline 6 still after 230,000+ miles runs like a top and get much better gas mileage!

Congrads on the money and a real win I only had to go 5 rounds.

    Terry

bossmav, gas here is $1.89 for reg. the track in tucson is about 85 miles. i had already made 2 trips to the track in phoenix, about 45 miles. the motorhome runs and drives great. i do have some things that need to be fixed, but it's great to have at the track as the temps are over 100 now. that's why our races now are at night. and my grandkids love to go to the track. the 5 year old races her big wheel bike there. they line up at the starting line, the lights come down and they race to the 60' line. times come up on the boards too, just like the cars. lot of fun for the kids. do you have the manuals for the motorhome. i think my a/c instructions say that if your on the generator you can run both a/c units, but if your using shore power you can only run the front unit. wierd. seems to pull my open trailer pretty good. i cruise at 65. have had it over 75. thinking about an enclosed trailer but i'm not sure how long i can go. the MH is only rated for 3500 pounds.:)

I got the switches wired right today, someone had them ALL messed up.
I can run either the front or the rear on A/C but only one at a time, both at the same time on the gen. Other then that I'm ready to go racing!

I can see why you race at night with temps like that, its only been in the high 70's to low 80's here. Gas is still at 1.62 a gal, but some places are already 1.67 a gal.
With all the things I've changed on the car I'm once again learning how to drive, the reverse valve body in the new trans has made the start of this year one more thing to think about.:slap:

Good luck to you this and lets both keep up the winning streak!

I saw two (2) (too) Mustangs blow their BFG's at FFW in Houston this past weekend. One hit the wall very hard. The other kept control of his.

Of coure they were running 170 mph on a 'non rated' tire (BFG refused to put a speed rating on it. Liability concerns I'm sure).

Side Note: When these first cam out, some people were almost limiting out the BFG so-called safety zone. Now, the cars are up over 170 and the tires can't hang.

Unfortunatley, it's gonna take a few lives before they outlaw the tire or the DR class all together.

(side side note: I'm sure you'll be fine. These are great tires for our class.)

Good luck and keep us posted.
