See picture to note the difference in a Comet fuel neck and a Maverick fuel neck. The mounting holes are different....so one will not work on the other without drilling holes. Also note the notches for the gas cap. The Maverick neck is from a 1977. The Comet neck is from a 1975. I do not know if that makes a difference. I do know that this is why some of the caps "clock" differently when put on a different neck that what the gas cap was designed for.
another ford better idea... been messing with Mav/Comets for about 14 yrs...still learning...thanks for the lesson...
Interesting! So, are there any repo necks for these cars? The folks who have had to replace the necks have had to go to NOS or from parts cars? You have to wonder with cars virtually the same why the difference? Will the same neck work on both caps w/ just re-position of the mount holes?
Like I been saying...You can't take parts off a red Ford and put them on a blue Ford...they won't fit. FWIW I'm rebuilding the engine in my 63 Falcon hardtop. They are 3 different distributor gears that fit a '63 170 six cylinder...2 of them didn't fit, 2 different rear axle seals and no telling what else I might find. The brake shoe hold down are not reproduced but they are the same that came on a 67 Plymouth Valiant and 74 AMC Gremlin with 9" brakes. I have seen the flange clocked different on our cars filler necks. Some have a slot at 10:00 and some at 11:00
And I thought it was going to be a trick question where the answer was the caps! Learn something new everyday whether I want to or not.
