Is this a good kit to transform maverick front brakes from manual drum to manual disc? 1974 4 Dr 6 cylinder 250

Probably a good choice. If using 14" wheels, twin piston calipers may not clear wheels. Someone, here, may have knowledge on your particular question. I thought 74 and up cars came w/ front disc?

74 was the crossover year - some did and some didn't - and the 74 disc is different from the 75 and up disc - it's a Ford thing ……

What's the difference , if you don't mind? My 73 had disc when I got it; someone had did the Granada conversion. Not being that familiar at that time w/ what worked w/ what, my local parts store "no longer in business" when through great lengths matching the caliper I took too him. What you outlined about a difference between 74/75 raised a question as to what I have?

Not to steal this thread. But it might be more folklore than fact. Supposedly some cars had mixed parts with different calipers, smaller drum type masters, different rotors, but the spindles were the same. Mix of Pinto and Mustang II parts. Some claim no difference at all.

According to Hollander - spindle and rotor are the same 74 and up - BUT they do show a difference for 74 and early 75 cars on calipers. And a difference for the master for 74. So yes there are some differences, but in the end it probably does not matter much.

I think it is just internet urban legend. I have had a few 1974 with disc brakes and they look like the 1975-1977 variety.

I like their stuff but it is annoying that you have to buy your Rotors directly from them. I don’t know of any others that would work with their kit.

I would think any factory rotor would work, as the kit is an exact copy of the Ford factory set-up....unless I missed something.

They use the factory drum brake spindles and I thought that stock ones would not fit on those spindles?

Your confusing different conversion kits. Your link goes to Classic Services Restoration Parts - and their kit #2 is the Granada disc spindle conversion - all compatible with Ford parts. The kit for a Maverick is their #2

The previous owner of my car put on the CRSP kit. They used the 4 piston caliper style used on the earlier mustangs. He had told me the only way to get new rotors was from CRSP directly and that I was unable to use the stock rotors. Also not to get too off topic I highly recommend the CRSP four piston kit, and you are able maintain the stock 14 wheels.

So you have the #1 kit.

Correct. That is why I am not sure if the stock rotors work with it.
