He was under the evil influence of Frank.:evilsmile

bossmav, that was a good article. I had read a similar one somewhere else. Wish I could remember where.:hmmm: These slicks will be used on car that will not run faster than in the 11's (I hope).

:hmmm: Maybe this has happened to you personally, but I (and many others at the track w/out a line lock) have had no problems at all getting the heat into the tire. Normally, it doesn't take a John Force burnout to get the tires up to temp.

Waterbox, pull forward, powerbrake, start off in low, get the rpms up, shift into second and get the rpms up until you see the tires start to smoke, then let off the brakes and let the tires 'grab' the track before pulling up to the starting line.

Plenty of my buddies (with relatively fast cars) do the same thing.

I'm not saying a linelock isn't a good thing - I'm just saying that NOT having one will not prevent you from ever getting the tires hot enough.

Maybe this is one of those "Let's agree to disagree" things. :beerchug:

Uh, Derrick and Rick, Dennis was telling me I needed a line loc because my '73 is going to be running a manual transmission. It's a little hard to manipulate a clutch, brake, and gas pedal with two feet. I know it can be done, but a line loc makes a burnout with a manual tranny whole lots easier.:yup:

I agree, Terry - but it's a matter of "finesse" to get the 'power-braking' down on a manual tranny. It's done by many.

Either way, best of luck to you. Can't wait to see your posts about the nights at the track.

    Found some 14x8 wheels

Bought a pair of 14x8 chrome reverse off e-Bay with 3.5 inch backspacing and the Ford bolt pattern - no unilug. May have paid too much - both wheels, plus shipping from WA, was $69.95. I like the fact that they are steel wheels.

Easier and more reliable to balance than the old style aluminum wheels (have to use stick on weights), take more abuse (I.e., being tossed around in the truck, trailer, from one side of basement to other), and cheaper.

Besides, when I sit behind the wheel, I'll be adding 250 lbs to the weight of the car. So what's another 3-4 lbs?:D
