1st of all I love Mavericks period. Now I will say I love Big Bumper Grabbers because like others have mentioned, my 1st new car was a 74 Grabber. I currently have several Big Bumper Grabbers & Small Bumper Grabbers. I do agree that the small bumpers are more cosmetically correct but I still love the looks of the Big Bumper. Below are pics of my 1st Grabber after my weddding. Not very good pics because they are scanned.

I kinda like 'em both, particularly because I have a small in the rear and big up front (still in the process of replacing the front). It really doesn't look too bad now.

I myself actually prefer the looks of a small bumper car but there are some big bumper mavericks out there that I really like too.

I like both big bumpers and the small ones. If I had an opportunity to buy a small bumpered Maverick, that would be fine with me. But, both of my Mavericks have the big bumpers and I absolutely will not change them over to the small ones. Both the Stallion I once had and the 77' Maverick I have now were involved in minor collisions, one hit in the rear by another driver and the other a head on with a deer. The damage to both cars was so minimal you could not even see it unless it was pointed out to you. The big bumpers and the big gawdy bumper guards took the impact on both occasions and in my opinion, saved me thousands of dollars in repairs. If the cars had been equipped with the smaller bumpers, the cars would have most certainly been heavily damaged. Even the insurance adjuster who came to look over my red Maverick after it's encounter with Bambi told me the damage would have been ten fold if it had not been for the big bumper and the big bumper guard. Considering how stupid people around here drive and the large population of deer living here, I'll stick with the big bumpers. That little bit of added extra protection is more important to me than how the bumper looks.

    No comparison (IMO).

i can go either way in the front but would prefer small. i feel a little safer with more metal between me and the other guy though. mavericks are pretty small compared to what im used to

as for the back, big bumpers are pretty hedious, small ones look much better.

when i get some more welding supplies i think im going to cut my front bumper off and slide it in to get rid of that big gap between the grill and bumper and reweld it in place, maybe try the same thing on the back.

I can't stand big bumpers on Mavericks. They were an afterthought and it looks like it...

The dad in me likes the big bumpers on the daughter's Maverick. The front bumper has been pulled in and looks better than original. I have a '73 that will get a earlier model front bumper (have it - just haven't installed it).

I have both, big and small bumper cars. I HATE big bumpers but like some others have stated about the safety issue...I tolerate them.

"I like big bumpers and I can not lie, you other brothers can't deny" :rofl2: Sorry I just can't hear that question without thinking of that. :D (Before you ask, no that's not my taste in music, but I did watch a lot of MTV in college  )

Most Mavs I like better with small bumpers, but I'm so used to seeing mine with big bumpers, it's gonna feel weird when I get the Grabber done. I just can't picture my 77 with small bumpers. And the big bumpers did save it when I got rear-ended back in '93 or '94. But I suppose seeing it coming and getting off the brake and on the gas probably had a lot to do with only getting a slightly dented bumper out of the deal. If not for the rain, I might have been unscathed.

It wasn't safety that brought on big bumpers, it was the insurance industry trying to save $$$ on small crashes under 5mph front and 2.5mph rear. They cost more to fix above 5MPH then the small bumper cars and the early big bumpers are actually more dangerous as they become battering rams. That's why the change from big steel bumpers to the plastic. Many have very little metal behind, but rather Styrofoam or a honey comb plastic. The metal bumpers were blamed with causing pedestrian injuries so new laws have made cars more pedestrian safe.

My feeling is that if you don't drive by the Braille method you don't need those stupid big bumpers. Learn to drive right and take responsibility for your actions.

Oh and if ya can't tell, I don't like big bumpers or the laws that regulate our cars very much.

I'm just one of those dinosaur old car industry guys that likes it they way it was. :rulez: suck

The only big bumpers I HAVE ALWAYS LIKED are in my avitar!
