I know there is repop through Rock Auto, but was curious is the 69-70 mustang door latches (not the striker) interchangeable? Or any mustang year?

C9AZ-6221812 and C9AZ-6221813 fits 69-70 Falcon, 69-70 Mustang and 70-72 Maverick. In 73 the Maverick part number changed to D5DZ-6221812 and 13.

In the Ford Master Parts Catalog door latches for '69&'70 Galaxie, Torino, Mustang, Falcon & Maverick are all same... Sometime in '71 they made a change and numbers are different but those may supersede the earlier numbers...

So yes a Stang latch will apparently fit most Fords of same/similar year...

Great to know! Thank you very much!

Bob, I picked up same strikers and figured what the hell might as well buy new latches. saw some on ebay for $41 shipped each. So, I wanted to make sure before I spent the 100$

Alright, I know this thread is ancient, but it's asking exactly what I want to ask and the question was never really answered so making a new thread just seems dumb.
I have a 1973 Maverick coupe, and the driver's side door latch keeps giving me issues. In this thread, someone states that the door latch part number changed starting in 1973, so does anyone know if it was just a minor adjustment but the old latches still fit and function on the 1973 and newer cars? I can't seem to find a new door latch for the 1973 and newer Mavericks but I'm fine with using the older style if everything still works properly.

I have my driver side out and they are the early type. Let me dig them out and I will take pictures so we can compare them. If someone has a later driver side out that can do the same we might be able to determine if there is a deal breaking difference.

Well that was a good suggestion and gave me the idea to just take mine out and compare it to pictures of the earlier ones that I could find online. The only one small difference that I could see is a little bump with a hole in it in between the arm that locks and the arm that opens the door that is only on the newer latch which I'm guessing was for attaching early power door locks? It doesn't actually do anything in my car as far as I can tell so it shouldn't matter. Anyways, I bit the bullet and ordered one and I will post pictures of them to show the exact differences, and if it fits I'll end this discussion once and for all

Glad you found some pictures because I haven't found my latch! Good thing the car won't run for sometime or I would be more concerned about it.

I'm glad to confirm that the old latch works in my '73!
There are 3 differences total that I noticed but didn't affect the fit and function of the latch:
The threads for the mount screws are a different size, but new screws were supplied and fit nicely (this may be due to the aftermarket part, and may not actually be a difference in the oem Ford parts).
The clips for attaching the rods were slightly too large for the rods, but the original ones fit and the new ones could be crimped a bit tighter so it works either way.
And finally, the difference that I noticed in pictures, which I'll add pictures for and describe later.

Old 1973 latch (left) and new 70-72 latch (right)
If you look on the right side of the old '73 latch, there is a hole drilled on a raised bridge that has no function on my Maverick. On the right side of the new '70-72 latch, you'll see that the same spot has no hole and is perfectly flat. This caused no issues in my '73.
My dad's guess is that it was for early power door locks, as those became popular in the '70s. I'm guessing later Mavericks may have had them? I would assume the Granada/Monarch/Versailles had them available. IMG_20200130_194543.jpg
