I tried to mask off mine and repaint with some chrome paint.. was disastrous. Still discouraged on it and blame it all on Doug Bauer and Dennis Martin. Dunno why I blame it on them ,, just because I can.

ya I was wondering how that chrome paint comes out. Guess I'll pass on that in the future.

My wife, who does a lot of different crafts and belongs to every craft forum on the net, wants to try some stuff will put the chrome finish foil back on the plastic. Wow! I finally found a car project she wants to do. If she pulls it off, I'm looking to buy every door panel with that plastic chrome trim available.

It woud look like crap ... you gotta remove the chrome ... not sure how it was put on at the factory put it does peel off over time. Underneath the chrome is grey plastic which doesn't look that good so it has to be repainted.

The panels in my Grabber had perfrect chrome and I wanted to keep it that way. I bought a bottle of ClearCoat Auto Touchup paint and cleared over the chrome trim to make sure it never got scraped or has the chance to peel ..

Terry ... I tried to redo my old set with the Chrome Foil they sell at the hobby store for doing chrome on plastic models .. it looks nice but is really tough to lay on smooth. I just touch up the areas that had peeled ... I didn't do the entire panel. I can tell you that it is very fragile and the slightest scratch will ruin it ...

How difficult would it be to pull the plastic trim off the panel? If you could get it off, then you wouldn't have to worry about screwing up the vinyl and you could send it to a place that chromes plastic.

I looked carefully at it and I don't think that it can be done. I had to repaint
one of mine and did a crappy job. I have one NOS and one original.

That trim does not come off .. it is permantly molded to the vinyl as far as I can tell ..

You may want to paint it blue or black instead of chrome to match your interior ... just a thought ..

Just Dashes claims they can restore any dash panel. You might give them a call and see if they can just do the chome trim.

I would just get the old chrome off and leave it alone, this was already done to my 73 2dr when it was bought and it looks good to me.
