the exhast and hood clearance are the only real problems.

shaving the shocktowers makes it less of a shoe horn job. but it will fit without shaving them. Just make sure you use good spark plugs because you won't want to change them.

If you want to see pictures of a 351w in a Maverick and read all about how it is done use the search function there are probably close to a hundred threads on here about doing it and pictures of cars that have 351's in them

    Exhaust is an issue...
They make headers for the swap, but I have heard Maverick 302 manifolds work on a 351w. If any iron manifolds were to work, those would be the only ones.

Everything else is strictly a one for one swap.

Make sure you have a 351w specific front sump oil pan as your 302 pan won't swap.
Same with the distributor and intake...

As far as mounts, pulleys, tranny, starter, and accessories beyond the long block, everything else swaps.

I know of a 351W powered Maverick, already running around Buffalo, the owner of that car might be able to help you out.

I had a 351w in mine before. It fit with no clearance problems, but was really hard to change plugs. I wouldn't do it again without cutting the shock towers.:)

That's a nice fit - looks like it came from the factory that way :thumbs2:

Mine is easier to change plugs with a 351W, headers, and shaved towers than it was with the factory 302, manifolds, and full towers. It is all in the shaved towers.

Headers are a horrible problem ... mine are custom-made from a set of 302 '68 Mustang/Cougar Headers ... brand unknown. The first and third tube are tight to the head and you have to install the header with those inside bolts first, or you have no shot at getting them in. Small header bolts and small Accell header spark plugs are mandatory. I want bigger tubes....

You are greatly restricted on intake manifold height if you want to keep everything under the hood. I have the air cleaner through the hood into the scoop. I now want an Edelbrock Performer Air-Gap manifold ... I doubt it will fit well without having to shrink what air cleaner I have.

We also found the oil filter coming very close to the shock tower, so there is a notch there too. It is speculated that my motor is sitting a bit high on the mounts for some reason.

This was all done 15 years ago ... it is so easy to build a stroked 302 now, I would do that instead of the 351. You can get big tube headers for that and you intake choices are much better.

I would still cut the shock towers, regardless. :thumbs2: They take up about 3 inches of room each that they don't need to.

It has a pair of summitt headers for a mav w/351 W in it but...They fit poorly and are drastically massaged in many places. Once I finish my blue one this one is getteing something much better along with a 408 stroker just for fun...
The rest of the exhaust is Dual 2 1/2" pipe and pair of flowmaster 44s' with 2 1/4" tail pipes all the way to the bumper/valance.

Depending on your choice of intake, and weather or not you are averse to cutting a hole in your hood/getting a cowl hood. It will fit under a flat hood with a low rise intake like an Edlebrock performer or similar.
